I will flash them to let them know they are clear but sometimes so go past you so quickly before you have time to flash them their in and gone before you think about it.

What's the meaning of the flash? I've always understood it to be "your back end has passed and it is now safe for you to pull in". But some trucks pass and cut in before I think it appropriate to flash them. A few have started to pull over before the back end has passed me!

The message is: Be alert. Your country needs lerts!

always use lights to talk,only when safe to do so obviously.find wagon drivers are first class at this anyway.what i do see now is a lot of cars can not be bothered to indicate when changing lanes or going back in.

I had a coach do this at the weekend. I ended up pulling onto the hard shoulder to avoid a collision. (Not an accident of course.)

Totaly agree car drivers and tin box towers who dont put the mirrors on are complete bone idel lazy Muppets.....

I don't use towing mirrors because my standard mirrors give a clear view down both sides of the van and I can see through the back of the van as well.

I can see far more with my current car without towing mirrors than I ever could with the old car with towing mirrors.

What I cannot understand is how people can drive around with their door mirrors either folded in flat to the door or as is all too often the case completely broken off.

Towing mirrors are a legal requirement if your caravan is wider than your car.

Are you aware that if you flash your lights to allow a driver in and the other driver through no fault of your own has an accident or mishap, you could be held liable for causing an accident.  Just a thought as there are some chancers out there that will try and sue you.

I've no idea what a "chnaceres" is, but you're unlikely ever to be charged with causing an accident just by flashing your lights. A flash of the lights has no significance in law, and in the Highway Code it only signifies "here I am", and is the visual equivalent of blowing your horn.

The responsibility for any driver's actions remain with the driver - so if I have an accident after acting solely on a signal from you, it's still my fault.

Imagine you're stopped at a T-junction, waiting to turn left. A car approaching from the right is displaying its left indicator. Do you pull out, assuming that the car's going to turn left at your junction? If you did, and it resulted in an accident, saying "his indicator was on" isn't likely to carry much weight. The crash would still be your fault, because it's your responsibilty to make sure it is safe for you to proceed, and not to simply assume it is.

Door mirrors are a legal requirement too but that doesn't stop people folding them in so they are flat against the door or having their interior mirror lined up so they can watch the kids in the back so by that reckoning even if somejobsworth did have a magic tape measure that made my caravan suddenly get wider I still have the towing mirrors in the van, they just aren't aligned very well.

It's also a legal requirement to have an audible indicator to show the indicators on the caravan are working. These are usually fitted in the boot. How many people cover them with luggage resulting in them being impossible to hear?

The problem is that you get some idiots out there, i.e. you flash, they start to pull in change their mind, swing out causing an accident and then blame you for giving them false info.  You may not get charged, but it could cause you serious hassles.

There was a flasher in our local park for two months at 12.30 every lunchtime, 350 women complained about him but not one could describe his face.

We never take a `flash' totally on trust anyway, whether it's from a tractor driver/truck driver/whatever. It is helpful & very appreciated a lot of the time but on occasions we have been fgiven the `safe to pass flash' when only a total idiot would attempt it- too close to a blind bend etc.
