thanks for the link michael, I'll give some of those a ring in the morning.

The van was serviced last march and stated no damp then so hopefully nothing has happened since.

We have bought and sold motorhomes on ebay, the one we sold,,,,we travelled up from yorkshire to Carlisle and met him in a hotel foyer, parked the motorhome in the car park where he inspected it, we were very nervous !! as he payed us in scottish £50 pound notesm which we asked the hotel to check before he left,,,,,all was well !!! and everyone was happy, BUT it was a very nerve racking experience.

We have also been duped, sending £1000 deposit on a motorhome after many telephone conversations that sounded plausable,,, it wasnt his to sell he had pinched someone elses photos and ebay account, we have learnt big time !!! and wont ever do this again.

Definitely do not pay for it before seeing it. I would stay clear if you can't get to view it first. We sold and bought a caravan through Ebay. Our buyer viewed the van first then gave us £500 deposit. We viewed our next van through Ebay before putting any money down. Its too risky to not see it first. We travelled all over the midlands and the north before we bought our present van. It was worth it, its immaculate and just what we want.

Don't rush into buying this one.If you don't get it then ' It's not to be'. There are some lovely caravans being sold privately so there will always be another.

Just to mention we paid in cash for our van. We also accepted cash(£13000) for our van.It took a while to count but I did it in front of the purchasers.Whilst OH explained the van and hitched up I checked all the notes with one of those pens.Fortunately everything went OK.We also paid £9000 cash for our 'new to us' van.

.Cash everytime for us.

Need to be a bit careful with this much cash as you start running into money laundering issues. I buy through auctions - they don't take this much cash. Might also be a bloke around the corner waiting to grab it.

Can't trust anyone these days!

This reminds me of ten years ago when a relative of mine sold a classic sports car for £5000.00 cash.  People turned up on a Friday aternoon about 5 pm and bought it there and then.  He lived in a rural area but as he was the local doctor he had nightsafe banking facilities with the bank.  His wife took it straight to the nightsafe and banked it.  They went out for the evening and when returning found they had been burgled but with an alarm connected to the police, the police were already there.  The police said that this was a common trick as most people would have still had the cash in the house and a lot of people go out on a friday night or over the weekend, thus them coming at 5pm friday so they had the car and then could steal back the cash.  May be more difficult for thieves nowadays with banks open on a saturday.

I wouldn't even leave a deposit on a private sale without seeing it first, if you do find damp or anything you are not happy with you wont get your money back!

I agree entirely Mzzy.  I wouldn't part with any money until I had at least seen the van and checked it out.

If you are really determined to buy a decent caravan ( and who isn't?) take a look on Caravanfinder first. You may get the bargain you are looking for there!

Just to update those who took the time to help advise me:

I picked the caravan up at the weekend and I'm chuffed to bits with it, hopefully test it out some weekend soon.

Thanks again.
