Most of the time one 6KG Calor lite. Especially weekends etc away. Always check how much gas is left if we are getting near the mark will put the other bottle in. For longer trips a week or more then both 6kg lites go in. One always get used for the cadac.
We always carry 2 x 13k calor propane bottles with at least one full and one almost full, nose wieght is around the 82kgs mark with 2 full bottles, van and car tow well, car limit is 112kgs. We almost never use site with EHU's so i would hate to run out, the noise would to much from the boss . We get a good 10 days from 13kg propane bottle with fridge, heating, cooking, hot water all run off gas.

I always take 2 6KG propane bottles when we go away as I very rarely use EHU never had any problems & always handy for when one runs out although I can get well over a week using the one bottle running the fridge cooking etc.
Our Gas bottle storage is 'midships'. We carry 2 Calor lites. One in use and a full 2nd. Whenever we run out we change bottles immediately and swap the empty for a full as soon as we can.
I,also was planning to change my 6kg calor propane for a calor lite bottle to save some weight.
According to calor's web site both 6kg propane and 7kg butane will be accepted in exchange.
HOWEVER....rang my local caravan dealer to check he had calor lite in stock, yes, but will ONLY accept exchange calor lite for calor lite !!.
Rang local MAIN CALOR DISTRIBUTOR dealer,to be told exactly the same, only like for like swaps.Alternative is to pay £29.50 to hire bottle plus the £19.50 for gas.
Anyone else finding this problem ??
New Caravans are designed for two gas bottles in the front locker but if you have a problem with noseweigh, take just one. There are usually plenty of places you can exchage gas bottles,Garages, garden centres even good outdoor stockists can have them.If your gas bottle is half full or more, this should usually get you through the weekend unless you have no electric hook up. Always carry gas bottles in the caravans front locker, well anchored down and turned off when travelling, NEVER CARRY GAS BOTTLES IN THE TOWING VEHICLE. In an accident these can be a time -bomb waiting to go off !

Changed a 7kg Butane bottle for a 6kg calor lite propane about 3 weeks ago. No problems, all I had to do was fill in an exchange form and all was done. Only had to pay for the gas in the new bottle.
I think Calor are tightening up. When we got the new van last May I scrounged around for some empty ones and traded in a HUGE propane and a battered empty butane for 2 shiny new propane lights. Got charged 18 quid each for the gas.
I've heard lately they'll only swap lite for lite.
We carry just one if we're away for the weekend or a long weekend. Carry 2 if we're away for a 2 week break.
