Just wanted to say that I too am a lady caravanner and do all the towing, and often go away on my own as OH isn't as mad about caravanning a moi...
Me and the dog do just fine and can even reverse, much to the annoyance of some male onlookers...LOL....
Would recommend one of the clubs towing courses, I did it when I first got my van and that's how I learnt to reverse. Although I also have a mover for tight spots. Saves braking your back getting the van positioned just right. Although most folks on site do offer to assist if they see a fellow camper struggling.
hay sennen26, your doing well at 45mph, im only up to 40mph at moment, lmao so im holding traffic up more than you now that is great, sod all the car people as they are only jealous they aint got a van attached to there car, lol

LOL....I put a sticker on the back of my van, just so they have something interesting to look at while they curse.........
hay what a great idea, i may put one on mine too, just trying to think of the best sticker i could make, lol, may take a while to word it right, but im sure it will read well, lmao
I tow ours - it's fine honestly.
reversing takes a bit of practise but once you realise you reverse back to front e.g when you want it to go left you turn right etc then it is fine
I used to worry about my speed and holding people up but my O.H. is a lorry driver and he pointed out that he can only do 40 mph on certain roads, so the fact that I do 45 mph is a bounus they coulb be stuck behind a lorry. Now I dont let it worry me I just get on with it once on a motorway I got up to 50 mph.
By the way I usually drive at 50 anway as I try to get the best mph that I can.
I do all the towing as my hubby doesnt drive. If your Mum can afford it I would say get a mover. It saves all the reversing and really helps when hitching. I have now been towing for almost 40 years and its never been a problem.I agree with Sennen, a steady 50 on the motorway is the best speed. I rarely overtake unless it is unavoidable. Go for it.
i am a lady tower and love it (its a good job really cus hubby hates driving and wont tow the caravan ) its never to late to learn to tow we have our own caravan and my parents have one to, my dad recent had a stroke and is unable to drive mum faced with the job do it or sell it challenged herself to have a go and the proud daughter that i am she has done it....... we are out on site now and and im writing this as everyone else is fast asleep......so learn to do it and enjoy by the way my mum is 56 !!!
I'm so glad I posted my question - cause now I know I'll be fine. I've really had a giggle at some of the stories that fellow lady caravanners have posted..
We've decided that I'm going to tow our caravan 'cause I'm used to my 4x4 and its automatic, and my OH with tow my moms caravan...bless.
A big thanks again to everyone for all your advice.
Hello i really enjoy towing our van, specially as we now have a Sorento i feel really safe, its good that i can share the driving when we go on long journeys down to Cornwall from Yorkshire.
------------- wishing everyone,,,,what you would wish for yourselves x
Ladies Towing Club? Fab, I'll join. I love towing Bertha, our Abbey Cabaret, with Tessie The Two Ton Terracan - we tootle along beautifully. Mind you, as someone else said - reversing is a different matter! Let's say, it's a work in progress....
