If you have cats check when you finally lock the van door for the off that there isn't a cat stowaway I didn't last year and driving down the M2 spotted a sillouette of a cat on the front cushion by the center table.. Yep I had a passenger had to pull up in lay by get in van grab cat and turn round and go home, surprised she was so calm didn't seem to care at all in fact she was cross I removed her. She is a layed back cat and probably was enjoying the view.

Can't think of anything else but have have :)

Sorry to go off the point of this thread but At least I know we're not the only ones! a very long time ago my Mum and Dad went away to France, there was a very long diversion in place on the Way to Dover and my Dad could not find a filling station so he ran out of fuel. They called the breakdown people and whilst waiting my Mum nipped to the loo in the caravan as she opened the door our very miffed cat shot out and up the grass verge! Luckily for them they ran out of fuel as they could have been caught for smuggling animals (this was a long time before pet passports). So darling Thomas spent the rest of the holiday in an Animal Sanctuary somewhere in Kent as they couldn't find anywhere for him to go!

The best bit must have been the vision of my mum with a tin of Tuna on the side of the road trying to coax poor scared Thomas back to her to catch him!

Don't take any gatecrashers!!

Don't forget where you put the caravan keys when you are about to set off, spend an hour searching for them only to find them in the Usual place they are kept!!

Don't forget to wind your steadies up before you drive off

Don't forget to pack far too many clothes "just in case"

Don't try and ram all the plastic cups in the upper lockers unless you want a sore head!!

Don't leave the open coco pops cereal, up on the shelf. Apply cellotape to the box otherwise you'll be finding coco pops for years to come!

Don't leave the handsoap lid thing in the open position unless you want handsoap all over the bathroom floor!

Don't forget to have fun!!

DON'T use the corner steadies to level the van, use a ramp chock if the van is not level side to side

Following on from above DON'T unhitch the caravan from the car until you have done a basic level check - it's a lot easier to pull the van onto a ramp chock with the car than push it on yourself

As others have said DON'T forget to close all windows and (especially) roof-vents prior to setting off

DON'T forget to take your time when towing, enjoy it, it's amazing how relaxing towing at 50-55mph on a motorway can be.

DON'T forget to leave more room when turning left so as not to wipe out signs/bollards/small children on the pavement

DON'T worry about reversing on to your pitch, take your time, most of us are rubbish at it too!!

  • Leave the toilet roll on the holder. it will be all over the floor when you arrive.
  • Open the window above the water inlet. I guarantee you will bang your head on it.
  • Don't take the wheel clamp off.
  • Switch the water heater off before draining it, and drain it. You'll burn the element out. I got half way home and realised the gas water heater was still on, and it was still working.
