I used to hate emptying the portaloo we had for the tent. But this van has a long cassette, and I found when I emptied it for the first time, the extra length of the cassette, meant I was further away from the cdp when emptying it, so didnt notice the smell so much . with the squarer portaloo I seemed to be right above it . YUK
As we have 8 grandchildren under 6years old,and we will generally have at least 3 of them with us at a time if not all of them . its much more convenient to just let them use the caravan loo for all needs , as trooping them to the loo block can be a long excursion , and as soon as you get back with one of the kids, another one will say they now need the loo.

We don't use van shower as it only has a curtain and it grabs you when you pull it round you.
We use both the van and site loos but we have a deal, the kids do the washing up i fill the water and empty the waste and loo and i get a cooked breakfast every day
Should not be any smell if the loo is set up properly.
Shower: We do use the shower in the van on occasions - usually when we stay on a site with water/drainage hook-up. Where there is no water hoiok-up we tend to use the site showers.
Toilet: I use the facilities 'fully' - after all, it's me who empties it. My wife and daughter tend to use the toilet block for no. 2's but will use the caravan otherwise.
I have to say that the toilet cassette on the Sancerre is by far the best toilet cassette we have ever had - easy to transport (on wheels with an extendable handle), and easy to empty. Slightly smaller than earlier cassettes we have had, and therefore easier to handle. I only empty ours after the light comes on, after which there is still space to use it before taking the trip to the CDP (or as I call it '...... taking the dog for a walk'!)
No smell ? you must be joking or I have an extra strong sense of smell.
Other people surely must notice that its whiffy too, or why are there so many people out there that refuse to empty it or won't use it for Number 2s except in emergencies .
I always use the correct dose according to the bottle.
Used our shower last weekend. Had to. And the loo for erm cough cough's. Booked into a CC site in Wales. Thought it was a bargain at £9 a night. On arrival we realised why. No facilities. The shower was great, switching off to lather up after initial shower, then on to rinse. Used hardly any water at all. Will certainly use such a site again. Was lovely. Thinking of a generator so we could go off-hook up also for longer periods.

Welcome to the world of CLs/ CSs
Yes it's great to go off the grid
How about a solar panel instead of a genny
Yes I am being selfish, cos' these are the types of site I use

Only ever had the chemical smell when emptying ours and that's no unpleasant ~ very much like softener for the washing machine
------------- Caravanning is a way of getting a cheap holiday out of an expensive hobby
Lol I use the correct amount of chemicals and always leave the door open if it is an inside disposal. Yep it whiffs but not for long. Rather that than traipse to the facilities with three kids every time one of them needs - always one at a time and you just get back with one and the next one decides they need to go.
It's easy to empty, dawdle to use and I have not been able to understand people that don't use theirs. They might as well have a bucket in the awning for nights and have the extra space in the van for living.

We love CLs although I do like to have hook up and many have ehu these days so we dont have problems finding any. As you say, they are a bargain and most are in lovely surroundings (little research needed here but worth it!). Hard to find reviews on them, but thats understandable because once you find a good one, you keep it to yourself!!
Our friends have never used their shower and they only allow the loo to be used in dire emergencies!! Does make me wonder why they bothered buying a van with a washroom? My little Holi has got a toilet compartment which houses the porta potti and I fully intend to use it, same as we do when we're in the tents. Unfortunately she doesn't have a shower but I am looking into the possibility of fitting one or at least a small basin.
Caravan loo during the night / heavy rain / roadside emergencies but only for pees. Site loos for no. 2s, and during the day. Use the bathroom for washing if too cold or showers cost extra, but site showers as once ran out of water half way through caravan shower and didn't enjoy the waiting for a refill!
My mum is disabled . We usually mention this when booking anywhere and they do tend to put us near the loos due to this. So during the day we use the site toilets and we do tend to use the site showers. We use our van loo during the night as it wouldn't be practical for mum to get to the site loos then. It also means I don't have to empty the cassette so much.
If the kids are with us and the site is busy they are allowed to use the van shower on condition they fill the aquaroll and empty the water hog afterwards
