it's the pesky internet i have spoken with a number of wardens and thay all say the same then folk cancel late and even worse lots of them don't even bother to do that
ban the internet it only keeps you awake at night talking to people who seem to exist but don't really
and then have you noticed how folk seem to talk less to each othjer on sites these days? or am i just an old codger - don't answer that
When I read this, I thought to myself.... I always seem to be talking to someone on this site. Then it dawned on me what you meant! When we were away at Freshwater last week, my 12 yr old daughter said, 'Dad! Do you say hello to absolutely every one who walks by?'
...and it's the pesky internet that shows all the CC as full when there are spaces.

So ... if deposits came in - all of us well organised people who book our whole season at the beginning of the year and have no problem booking where we want to go, and don't moan about it all the time ...... will be penalised as we will have to fork out loads of money at the start of the year just so the rest of you don't have to get your acts together ! Ooooh now there's something to have a moan about !!!!
Hope this helps !

I agree only partly, Shirley. I agree that it would be more than a bit of a pain to have to fork out the deposits. I do think that some folk cannot book in advance because of their jobs etc. My daughter is an A&E nurse and often doesn't know when she is working until the last minute. She can book time off a bit in advance, but is fairly limited, in this respect. I am retired now, so it makes it a bit easier (but my wife isn't), but I still keep up one or two things. As a choirmaster and organist, my weekends are fairly well booked and we can only get away when I can get cover.... and this and other aspects depends on how others can commit. I'm sure there are others in a far worse position than I.
Best wishes

I know, I just thought the other side of the story should be aired a bit. All the people that are happy with the system as it is tend to not moan as much as the others. It all boils down to the fact that you can't please everyone. In my case the CC suits my way of life. The C&CC may suit others - they have a deposit system - why not use them instead ? Plus all the other numerous organisations who are all deposit driven. At least leave us the CC that isn't !!
Late for work now, again !!!

We joined the caravan club to use mostly at weekend's due to working Mon-Fri and school, would love to get the chance to book 3 weekend's. Easier finding hens teeth!!!!
About a month ago tried to book some sites for the summer not a hope in hell to find anything for the six weeks holidays. I was not stuck to one place it was any place beetween the north east and somerset.
Found 2 sites that had availabilites one had very sloping pitches the other had problems with access which for our motorhome wasn't worth risking.
I rang the caravan club to ask if there was any way of searching all available sites for July and August, one of the managers answerd the phone very nice man.
There was no facility to search but he did say that the booking system is being looked at again. I have no problem paying a deposit it seems the only way to stop people booking and cancelling at the last minuite.
The caravan club is said to be the friendly club but not for families with restricted dates for holidays.
I did look on the website in January to make a booking at a new site that was opening in August and that was fully booked in January.
I think the caravan club is great if you have no work or school comitments, just wish they would have family parks that can be used for adults only during the week and families only for weekends.
Not sure what the answer is other than a deposit system

Yep! Interestingly enough, someone pointed the following out to me the other day, although you pay a deposit with the C&CC, if you cancel, a week before your intended visit, you get the deposit back. It doesn't bother us too much as we use a combination of CC, C&CC and commercial sites. We are veering towards using the C&CC for when we go with a small group of (6) units - they make an effort to pitch groups together but with the CC, it's largely a question of luck.
Not quite. They don't refund, they hold your deposit for another booking and if you don't use it within that year you lose it like we did although we gave a couple of weeks notice we were unable to use the pitch booked.

Its actually the C&CC that claims to be `the friendly club` NOT the CC.
As for finding available sites at any given time, there IS a system, its incredibly simple and I cannot comprehend that anyone who really wanted to do so found themselves unable to do so.
Simply go onto the club website, hit "search UK sites" and enter your dates. You cannot possibly have a simpler system, or one which is easier to access !!
