Every forum on tin boxes has major complaints about the pegasus in one way or another.
Compared to other sites this one doesnt have many people complaning about the pegasus.
But the Question is does Kelly, Ian, and i forgot his name oh yeh the man who designed the Crap sink and tap and bed guard that splintered my little girls hand in the gt 60.
take any notice?
In my case YES in the peg case NO or maybe even NO
Is there anyone on here who tows a reffer? if so throw a stone at it and see how easy it dents compared to the ally on the Pegy then tell the numpties at Bailey to change the Grade of ally.
was chatting to a mate tonight who is in the trade who actually said that the reason for the stone chips is towfold, 1 being the aluminium is tinfoil thick and the fact that it is so stressed on the panels not allowing for any play so when something hits it it dents.
ideally bailey should have made the panels from 2mm aluminium and allowed a wee bit of flex
ta for your support folks.....its just abit gutting when the only thing you`ve ever had new is a bit of a lemon. we love the van and certainly not anti bailey but major design flaws do grate alot after spending so much hard earned dosh on it. its not just us moaning, theres plenty out there with problems, just seem to be on other forums,,, denting to the front panel is a massive issue to any alu tech owner.....
unless you have one of these vans you really dont know the heartache + stress involved.
You are not alone in this issue, as we also own one as well, and it seems many people are suffering the same problems re dents in the Pegasus. Dealers appaently aware of the problem do mention it to some customers when pressed. Baileys customer service on this issue is currently not good, and others should be aware of this prior to looking at the Baileys current range. I have seen Baileys deny there is a problem with the design and put it down to ...."stones being on the road".
They must know there is a problem as apparently they are now planning even BIGGER bumpers on newer models due out sometime, but will these solve the problem. I dont think so, especially for the people who already own one.
Baileys must respond to these concerns and provide a soultion otherwise look out. Watchdog is taking an interest and customers are looking at all options.
Firstly its good you have posted this thread, as it is helpful to other owners, a different thread on tyres helped us as we didn’t know there was a problem with some caravan tyres and as a result ours were changed for free.
This thread has got me thinking as our Geist an AK has an aluminium front, but we have had it for 4 years now with no stone dents that we have noticed, then I started thinking may be that’s why we have sliver plastic panels up the front sides on ours, I was never keen on the look of these but suddenly they look wonderful! Added to which on the Geist we have a longer draw bar, which apparently helps with stability, but It also makes me wonder if it helps too as the stones may not be as likely to fly that far and may have lost momentum so they cause less damage!? Also the aluminium is I think thicker?
I hope Bailey sort it out soon, watchdog sounds like a good idea. Thinking about it further many manufacturers had changed to ABS fronts and sides to protect caravans from dents a few years ago it was a big selling point, so surely Bailey would have know all of this and should have taken it in to account in the design stage?
I agree, the only way to get something changed nowadays is people power or to keep constantly nagging until they will go away!! Which shouldn't happen, but in this day and age unless you kick up a fuss no one is interested!
I feel for you bev+john that you have things that you can always "see" out of the corner of your eye which reminds you that your New baby is as perfec as you expectedt!
Unfortunately I'd never buy a Bailey just not our choice at the moment, I'm an Adria girl sorry!
I also agree about this forum, there are always really helpful people out there who will help you out with any issue or query you have and I try my best to help out with my knowledge (which is somewhat limited) when I can. But recently I've defered from responding to posts because sometimes there are sarcastic, arrogant and rude responses posted by the minority.
I hope it doesn't deter you from using this forum as you'll see you get the support and response for the majority and ignore the rest of 'em!

And maybe all caravan tow-ers should invest in a good set of mudflaps. My tow car came with some mudflaps, but they weren't long enough to stop mud, road dirt etc being sprayed on to the front of the 'van while towing. By adding a cheap pair of mudflaps which were just a couple of inches longer than the standard Nissan kit, I've greatly reduced the problem.
been there , done that and added industrial quality 4 ply reinforced rubber belting bolted to the original mudflaps that virtually scrape the road but it doesnt stop stones flicked up from passing vehicles damaging the van though ?
Encase your van entirely in bubblewrap. It's the only way to be sure....
There is another way - have a towball fitted to the front of the van and push it instead of pulling. That way there will be no stone chips - can't see why no-one has thought of this before?
Quote from this months CC magazine on the Bailey Olympus. "Hefty, super thick exterior panels. The end result is a caravan that feels as tough as old boots". I guess some of you may already have contacted them to put across your experiences.
I see that a few members on here are having the odd sly dig at Bev and John about their constant posting regarding the problems they are having with the Peggy. Well I for one are right behind them with the continual posts as they are highlighting the potential problems for new prospective owners( or not) as the case may be. Furthermore as Bev eluded to this is their 1st new van so why shouldn't they expect it to be completely "right".
Also if Bev and John have got a gripe with Bailey as I suspect they have, What better way of re-paying them as I'm sure the bad publicity will be hitting their Peggy sales pretty damn hard.
Maybe the the odd sly digs here and there is mainly envy.

There is a Hymer parked next to us in storage, after just a few outings the front panel looked like it had been in a war zone....some of these were really high up as well, so it isn't just Baileys.
Maybe there is something to be said for the GRP panels on the Swift Group vans.
