We've not put our carpets down - I don't like carpets in the living areas at home (especially kitchen / bathroom), so don't see the point in the 'van either.
Also as we have 2 children and a baby and so far have eaten most meals in the van, it's much easier to clean up their mess after meals with a laminate floor. And baby's toy cars are much easier for him to push back and forth than they would be on carpet.

Can completely see why others use the carpets though.

We use the carpets, the shower, the loo, the washbasin, the oven and everything else the van came with. What on earth is the point of not doing?

We have just  had new carpets fitted at home, and have cut out 2 new sets of caravan carpets from the "good bits" - ie under the sofa etc., from the old carpets, and had them and some mats bound for £60. Have shampooed them with the Bissell, and treated them with Scotchguard, and they will be used.

We are a family with three dogs no less, but as they are loose laid in three section its easy just to remove a piece and shampoo it if necessary.

The only reason we are putting new ones in is because for some reason the grety Hymer carpet has discoloured by the hot air vents, and it looks for all the world as if it has had bleach spilt on it. This happened adjacent to all the vents.

Neeedless to say the wonderful (or not) Lowdhams refused to do anything about it, so this seemed like a good opportunity to change.

The only time they have been removed was when we were staying on a site literally in the sand dunes on the Ile de Re, and it was very very hot and easier to brush out the sand each morning.

We use our carpets - wouldn't dream of not doing. Don't have a 'no shoe' rule either (not much point with one dog of our own and 5 others with camp who treat all the caravans as their own!!). The carpets get swept with a rubber brush when we're away (excellent - shifts just about anything), but they could do with a shampoo now - I'll do them this winter.

We use every facility our 'van provides - didn't spend £12000 for the next owner to have the pleasure!

Ours is in the loft in its original rolled up packaging, never to see the light of day (not while we own the van anyway) With 3 dogs and 3 kids I would have to vacuum 3 times a day. Much easier to just sweep the floor 3 times a day lol and when the kids spill anything or the dogs come in with muddy paws I can just wipe the floor, We have only ever had one van out the 5 we have had with fitted carpets and it was a complete nightmare so I put horrid plastic carpet protectors on top of it. I can understand the carpet thing in the winter perhaps, but not for us with our lot.

Children and dogs here so I lifted middle carpet at kitchen and bathroom. Kept at lounge and bedroom. Works fine. I prefer carpets up at kitchen as I home cook and get fed up of hoovering up crumbs when a quick sweep is easier.

we have just had a new set made to measure for £50, the van is only one year old but the original colour was very pale green, so now got a darker set, they are lovely too, so really pleased, i like the feel of carpet feels homely and warm.

Carpets stay in all the time with us.  Two teenage boys and two dogs means they do need regular cleaning.

One of these lives under one of the seats.

It's part of our morning routine......Breakfast.....clear van of clutter and rubbish......vacum floor.

It only takes 3 or 4 mins to do before heading off out for the day.

Well it just shows we are all different we wouldn't dream of vacuuming daily even at home! Its obvious from the posts that we all have different ways of living and the world would be a boring place if this wasn't the case!

Carpet has always been down for us, even if with the dogs and its wet.

Lino is dangerously slippy when wet. Carpet gets a bit mucky. But cleans up well when we return from our trip.

It's only on longer trips that we clean the floor during a holiday!

Guess we're just dirty campers

Ours were so light coloured that we bought a carpet remnant in a darker colour for £10 and fitted them instead. Just sold the van with the original carpets and it looked great. Sold in under a week.(the rest of the van was in a lovely cared for condition)

We're with you on this one Jo, ours are in the attic too. We only use our van during summer months & it tends to get a fair bit of sand tracked back in there. We see no point giving the vacuum a hernia when we can simply sweep the floor in a few seconds. I'd not thought of it but for those worrying about weight, we don't have to carry the vacuum or the carpets now.
