Interesting development. Legally, what has happened here is that you have now entered into a different contract to that set out under EBay auction conditions. For the avoidance of any doubt and to protect your position it would be beneficial to put it all in writing confirming that you both agreed the way forward. It would help if they wrote to you to confirm as well so that you are covered.

Then there is the deposit issue. Is it clear that the deposit is to cover your expenses or part payment for the van? If the deal does not proceed will they get the deposit back or is that forfeit? That may need to be clarified. Further it would probably be as well to say that title to the caravan will not pass to the buyer until all monies due have been paid. Don't want any come back from the buyer claiming that he has a legal interest in the van that may prevent you from selling it elsewhere. As you are dealing with a Polish gentleman I would add that English Law applies to the deal. 

Payment of balance in cash or a bankers draft would be best so that you can get rid of the van when that is in your hand.

Forgeries aside, I think they are. Mind you, where your money is concerned, "remain on your guard" is sound advice. If you are getting a bankers draft its a good idea to have a look at a valid one so you know what one looks like if you have never dealt with them. Anyway, one way to make sure of getting the money could be to arrange and expidited clearance of funds through the buyers and sellers Bank. Both Banks are advised of the date of the required transfer and both go along to the sellers Bank to pay the cheque in. They then go off and have a coffee together whilst the two Banks effect clearance. Go back to the Bank after about an hour (or however long the buyers Bank say it will take) and the Bank will confirm that the sellers cheque has cleared...all being well! Hand over the caravan.

May not be able to do that if the buyers Bank is in Poland so get son to pay money to Dad first and then use Dad's cheque. One of the many potential complexities of selling via eBay!

Well there's not much more I can do until next weekend when he's agreed to collect and pay for it. We'll see what happens.

It's much easier selling boats via ApolloDuck. I've just had a very nice chap drive all the way from Devon to Cheshire to collect a sailing rig. Arrived on the dot, cash in hand, chuffed to find the bits he was looking for.

Just to say that it is finally all sorted out. I had to resort to reporting it as an unpaid bid, which resulted in the buyer contacting me within a minutes to arrange collection. I've never had to use the Resolution Centre in ebay before, but it seemed to work very well. In future I'll consider being a bit more stroppy when I make a listing.

I kid you not and not counting the £8000 conservatory I bought for £750 earlier this year! and it's as good as new and as white as the day it was made! I reckon I've saved around £1000 on ebay this year alone buying DIY stuff
