quite true.
also the same old bug keeps raising its head FOOTBALLS ! why do we have to all be football fans they in the main are just a cause of conflict and damage. everyone thinks they are Beckham. ok for small children. they are entitled to dream and have fun at play. but its the 18stone rotund darlings that get me. you can have hundreds of acres and they have to try and be clever with their non existant ball control next to property and flower beds etc etc.
and its us who are wrong to tell them to sod off !
I wont allow a footabll or hard cricket/rounders ball in or near my unit. not precious about it just hacked off with the constant "bang/boom followed by a pathetic Sorry!"
as for the frisby chucked full strength 20ft high for a one legged. one armed. larger lout, bedecked in football shirt and jogger shorts to waddle to catch GRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Morning, sorry I can't stay up as late as you Viggo. Its not so much other sites are doing anything much different to the club sites, its primarily you have to be off by 12 (I know if you ask, the Warden can use their discrestion but envariably I have been made to feel awkward when asking, and it makes it difficult to make any real plans on the Sunday). Also dare I bring up the subject of pitching next to friends. Over the years we've used the caravan to meet up with friends, often arriving from totally opposite directions. Both with familys, we can't leave home before end of school, so arriving on site often after the pitches best suited to families have gone, and the chances of pitching together are slim to say the least. The clubs' rules in effect discriminate against families, favouring those who don't work and without school children; in some walks of life this would be perceived to be age discrimination which is unlawful. Of course in most cases of discrimination, it is often only the victim who feels it, others often don't understand. A bit heavy sorry. Dan (By the way, please don't take me for a moaner; I love my van and what it provides for our family)

The trick to staying late on Sunday is to ask about it on Saturday. Wardens only have a problem if the site is set to be busy with incoming units on Sunday/Monday, and they'll know the state of play with bookings etc by Saturday lunch. Even at the height of the season many sites lose a third to half of vans on a Sunday morning, and don't get busy again until the middle of the week. In my experience, on about 75% of sites it is not a problem to stay until late afternoon on a Sunday, most of the year round.
You say you feel discriminated against because you can't arrive until late on a Friday. I don't think you are. You are disadvantaged, yes, but not by the Club, only by your own circumstances, and that's the same for everyone.
As I wrote earlier, there are temporary campsites and rallies run by the clubs throughout the year where you are much more likely to be able to arrive late, get a couple of pitches side-by-side and stay late on the Sunday. A call to the on-site organiser may even unofficially reserve you a couple of spots. Have you tried them? If not, why not?
Both Clubs are member-led organisations, not commercial operations. If they aren't providing what you want you can get involved at a local or regional level and help organise something that does cater for you and your friends' needs. The clubs will help you do this, and be happy to do it. That's why they were set up in the first place.
I won't call you a moaner, Dan - I understand what you're saying, and I can see that it is a nuisance - but what I don't understand is why you think its the clubs' fault. Do you have any suggestions about how they could do things differently that would help families and not unduly disadvantage other members?

My experience of the caravan club was in 1990 at Elvaston caslte near Derby. We stayed there in the May half term hoildays, my 2 sons were 3 and 5, it was hot and dry and they were rising their bike with stabilisers and trike on unoccupied grass pitches. The warden asked me not to let them ride on the grass as it would damage the pitches, I asked where they could ride their bikes and he replied on the tarmac road on the site, in my opinion, not satisfactory. During the same week, an oap radio ham had a petrol generator outside his van making a noise and belching out fumes all evening, when I mentioned it to the warden the next day, his reply was if it was a problem, why didn't you complain, it wasn't a problem for me as my van was a fair distance away. From that experience, I deduced that the caravan club was run by retired couples for retired couples, faimiles subscriptions were welcome but families were not. I voted with my feet and didn't renew my membership. But, as my children have now grown up and left home, it's just me & my wife, perhaps we should buy a luxury 2 berth (gin palace) van and rejoin the caravan club.

I agree with a lot of what Dan The Man says. It would be ideal if we could take the kids out of school Friday pm and leave at lunchtime - no can do. It would be equally ideal if we could go away outside of school holidays - also, no can do (others choose to, that's their choice). So it's not always possible to get your ideal pitch, for those of us with kids and equally for those without. But if you're retired, you can do what you like when you like. Boy, am I looking forward to it
not always the way, many grandparents look after there grandchildren each day as we do.we are both retired but because the adults are working we do the school runs and feeding, football, karate, swimming, caravan holidays.we can only go away school holidays.its a 9 to 6 job.but we like it keeps you fit.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
