Just put Thirsk to Pickering into my copilot app and chose the RV routing option - it routed over Sutton Bank :o

I sometimes program my Tomtom One with two destinations to get around this problem, (A to B, then B to C) or put in a 'via' point.

It's also possible to edit the route and avoid part of the route if you want to get around a particular road. Takes time though.

Just try pulling a double axle welfare unit weighing in around two and a half tonnes. Then have it sitting ten miles down a single track with gradients so steep, the Defender, in 4WD high ratio, is struggling to get up on it's own!

I was sent to collect such a unit north of Kylesku, I had my son, just turned 5 who thought it was an epic adventure...

Lucky he didn't see my knuckles at one point where I was in low ratio, first gear and the chunky tyres were scrabbling up a gradient so steep I was pressed into my seat

He came out with something so funny I lolled

"Look daddy, most dangerous road!"

The journey up took a few hours, but going back took four times as long. But we did see a herd of deer not 5 metres from us as well as birds of prey floating above waiting for unsuspecting rabbits and such.

All in, a journey to remember and training to boot

not a sat nav answer but the route from darlo to pickering is along the a66 off at Elton and then thr yarm, at the a19 take the crathorne turning and head towards stokesley, thr the high street and right at the roundabout then the Helmsley road at the next roundabout, nice road all the way to pickering and then on to scarborough that way.

North York’s moors is a favourite spot. Tried via Michelin Route planner and even with caravan option selected it tried to route me via Sutton Bank too. I contacted Michelin support last year about this. Their support team told me that the caravan option only takes speed limits into account, not suitable routes, but they would look into it. Heard nothing since.

In other words, do not trust this route planner!

How can they claim to give you a Caravan-friendly route - if they ignore almost every factor which makes a route caravan friendly?
