During my shower, there was suddenly an overpowering strong smell of urine, and it dawned on me that an occupant of an adjoining shower cubicle had peed in her shower, and I was probably standing in the results!
Its a weird one for us as we spent ages looking around for a caravan with a layout to suite us.... the toilet and shower was a high priority....however now we have our van we never use either and always use the ones on site....when looking for sites we always look for sites with WC and Showers.... bit mental really !!! Mind you is we ever wanted to sell it is something buyers would be looking at too and also we still have the toilet and shower just in case.....

This has been a regular debate, and the design of more "basic" vans in also topical in the trade press of late.
Haveing no on-board facilities is fine if you are sure you will never stay on a site without facilities, go on a rally, stay at a basic CS\CL etc. Also useful if the weather outside is terrible or you are not happy with the standard of facilities supplied.
Depending on preference the choice is perhaps between a full end bathroom or a smaller "emergancy" wetroom. I prefer the former.
Campsite showers for me every time! More spacious and unlimited hot water at the push of a buttonmake it a much more enjoyable experience imo. Also, I'm quite lazy and just couldn't be doing with faffing about filling and emptying water all the time for an onboard shower.
I've been living in the van in all weathers for nearly two months now and can honestly say that I haven't once thought yet that I would like to take my shower in the van.
------------- Tackling life the Western District way
Useful as a back up and when there are no site showers, but unless you have a compelling reason such as mobility issues why pay for site services and not use them if needed and available.
We mostly use CC sites with disabled facilities, so rarely use the shower in our caravan, only on the very few occasions we are on a CL without any facilities.
Our toilet does get used en-route quite frequently whilst were parked in a lay-by though, as OH cannot wait more than about an hour or so between needing to use one since hes had his Kidney operation done, and we both use it a few times during the night.
Oh, and we both own a pair of specially kept for the purpose 'Shower Crocs' that are never worn outside, and these prevent us from standing in or on anything nasty and yukky in the sites showers!

cant believe how many people dont use there own shower.we much prefer it .We have a seperate shower in our van and can get 2 out of 1 aquaroll .I allways take 2 aquarolls so its easier to to just switch over if its late at night .Also a lot of people complain about the on site showers ,so you cant beat the comfort of your own van .
We have a shower in our caravan and I would love to use it - but having no water heater means its either freezing cold shower or reluctantly use the site facilities.
Cannot wait until funds allow for a new heater as we will then be self sufficient and wont have to seek out sites with showers

Oooh, I cannot WAIT!!! We pick our caravan up on 21st June! The children don't know, we are keeping it as a surprise for when they get home from school and see it on the drive! I think we will be sleeping on the drive that night! Might have to have showers indoors though....!
I am soooo excited!
How fab that story reminds me of when I was a child and came home from Sunday school one day & saw a matching car & caravan in our drive I was sooo excited, we had so many happy times in that caravan ..... that was 47yrs ago !!!! since then I've backed packed (husband number one) cruised the canals (husband number two) now with partner number three we've gone from camplet to eriba to combi, now looking forward to picking up our Lunar Ariva up tomorrow & I'm as excited as I was all those years ago coming home from Sunday school !!! how lucky am I
we dont have a shower ,our frends do .,they have a large 4 wheel german caravan and only used it once ,we only go on sites with good shower blocks , ,,,,glyn
We have a 13 year old van and the shower area is not a sealed cubicle style so we use ours as an extra storage area. Love the end bathroom for its space though and yes we do use the loo! Like Romany girl we have 'shower shoes' and most of the site showers we have used have been immaculate.
have a new caravan with a shower, would'nt use it ! I pick sites with good clean facitities and suppose in an emergency would use. Hope this makes sense.
No ! There is one in it, but I'd rather use the ones on site as they're bigger & better - and I'm paying for them Saves filling up the aquarolls so much too.
