No problem leaving it on all the time or switching it off.
but it will last a lot longer if you switch it off, like said previously just like a lightbulb it will burn out quicker if it constantly switches on and off on its thermostat.

Mine goes on when i arrive.....and goes off again before i leave!
Can I ask you this and this applies to all of you leaving it on permanently........?
I presume you're leaving it switched on in the 240 volt mode. If this wasn't available to you, would you leave it switched on permanently in gas mode.
I don't think so!
We use ours the same way as we use the water heater at home ie on for a couple of hours in the morning and the same again in the evening. This gives us more than enough hot water for our needs.
