Hope everyone stays safe. My daughter was out in a 3 man tent last night, luckily no damage. She then completed Duke of Ed walk in pouring rain. Home safe now.

So far so good, the wind has died off a bit. I'm hoping to take awning down later if all goes well.
Hope you managed to get the awning down and have a safe trip home tomorrow.

Time to say goodbye

Don't rely on any weather forecast, here in Southampton they say it's sunny/cloudy and calm, yet it's peeing with rain and windy. If they can't get the current weather right, ignore any forecast!
Well the awning is down, my transit van has been pulled out of the swamp and I've move the caravan so that we walk out into the road side, so we don't drag the mud in.
Had a lucky hour with no rain talking the awning down then the sky opened up and soaked us but we are already to leave when ever we want. Fingers crossed for ok weather tomorrow to travel home in.
Glad you got it down - take care driving home. We've just spent the weekend at Lowther Park, Penrith. Friday here was horrendous but as soon as we got about 7 miles down the road, the sun was shining and fortunately shone all weekend although chilly in the evening. Managed to pack and get off the site before the heavens opened, driving over Shap was bad with crosswinds and lashing rain, my OH drove between 45 & 50 all the way, okay it took us 2 hours but at least we arrived home safely - better safe than sorry.
Yeah its looking good now, I've also got a drive a could park it in in watchet just a few miles down the road if I don't fancy driving over the bridge.
Well done Mark. We had a horrific time in Cornwall a few years ago . I spent all night checking pegs etc and next morning found 3 families in the rec room and tents strapped to the floor. The 5 families left spent the day helpin each other safely get down before we left en mass. woman in nhospital after an awning pole smacked her on head in night. Typical camping spirit though all kids in games room eating sweets and safe whilst ten parents held onto flapping canvass and packed up. Very scary but a learning curve all the same and obviously you made good choices and all is well. x x x x x
------------- Oh am loving the tin tent after campaining against it..........I was wrong.
Thanks crazyplace. We are nice and warm cutched up in our little 2 birth. Everyone else got home safely this afternoon.
Lots of people have left today in tents, campervans and caravans. I didn't see the point in leaving, safer staying where I am.
Had some fun and games though.
Lucky I don't mind working in the rain too I guess.
Just spent the week end at the CC site in Hythe - lovely site but the weather was horrendous - torrential rain and gale force winds, this is the wettest drought I've ever experienced.
Didn't risk the awning and we had a hardstanding thankfully. Our friends joined us, it was their first outing in their caravan, they had a more sheltered pitch so they were able to use their awning - though taking it down was a carefully timed operation whilst the weather took a brief break from battering us.
We only went to Hythe as it is near to us and our friends were eager to try out the new 'van - and we are still fairly new to it all so still getting used to it.
Just as we got home the sun came out! Thankfully none of the above put them (or us) off caravanning. Will return to Hythe soon as we didn't get the best from it this trip.
Mark, I hope you have a peacefull night and a safe trip home.
Had to take my awning down in a gale one time. I took the frame out while the pegs were still in, then removed the pegs last.
This worked well, we were able to control the awning quite easily.
We spent last week at Lobb Fields in Braunton but came home on Friday because of the forecast. Had been there two weeks and had the worst weather we have ever had in 45 years of camping and caravanning! We made the most of it though and had a good time, but we did not have any children to entertain.
