Changed from a TT to a caravan because the TT canvas etc got too heavy to handle. Was gutted because I loved our days under canvas with all the windows out in the heat of the south of France. Not so good in the UK with the weather we get.
So I got a full awning from e-Bay for £120 for the caravan - just as nice in the warm, but a fraction of the weight of the old canvas. Zip out the windows and you've got an awning.
Both went on towing courses so none of that a problem.
wouldn't change back now.
Gave the TT to daughter and her brood, so its still in the family and not part-exchanged for some stupid amount. All went away together this summer on next-door pitches. Brilliant!

Changed from a tent to a caravan, the wife loves camping but her arthritis didn't and she couldn't be doing with getting all the way down to an airbed on the floor. Camp beds were just uncomfortable so the obvious choice was a van. Im sure she'd let me sleep in the awning if I missed it too much.

Changed from tent to caravan. I hated camping with every fibre of my being and I can't imagine any circumstance that would get me back in a tent ever again.

On the other hand I love caravanning so much that I've surprised myself

We are looking to do the same, change from a TT to a caravan.....I too was concerned about possible regrets as its a large financial outlay. As we are a family of 6 for any stays longer than a weekend we wold need a large awning.....how do these compare, setting/packing up to that of your tents/tt's or as that is literally all yu need to do packing up wise, does it to seem/become an issue....ow long do the Isabella awnings take to set/pack up?

Musing about the pros and cons when we were on holiday, doing a two-centre with a tent. I want to some day amble down through France, but simply can't do it with our tent. But doing 1300 miles on holiday towing to me just doesn't appeal to me. Maybe one day, but not yet.

We have changed this year from a FC to a caravan. With all the wet weather this year we had been unable to use it.So although we enjoyed the extra space, fixed beds and cooler in the heat the stress of getting packed away dry or getting dry on our return home was becoming a problem. The caravan is proving to be less stressful for us and the possibility of using it for a longer season to us is a real bonus. For us its worth having to make a bed up each night!

we changed from a tent to a caravan last year and never regretted it, we now have a longer season, going away in October half term which we would not have done in the tent, being a family of five we do need a full awning (ventura) however this is erected in no time at all and gives us a huge amount of extra space. we have a superb end washroom and being able to use the shower in there instead of the facilities on camp is a big bonus to me......its means i get an extra lay in

Changed from tent to MH to caravan, don't regret it... especially as my caravan is part tent, being a pop top, so I still get the fresh air!

Hello You lot,

We have finally made it back after our six week run. It rained, but we never got wet pulling it down

. It was cold but we had the blown air heating on eventually after our nephew came and showed us old uns

BUT, instead of us still putting it up or down whilst everyone was either gone on thier way or having a cuppa.      Well so were we. Very cosy & very enjoyable. All went well for our first hols in the 2 berth c.van we have. The awning did not take that long to piut up either once Bob got the hang of it.

My niece & gt. niece made me a patchwork blanket whilst we were on hols they worked all week for us.,This will not only be cosy at home but throws over the bed in the c.van. So now we have 2 very colourful indeed.

Roll on the next one.

When we switched from FC to caravan I vowed that I wouldn't sit inside all the time and watch tv.  However, to start with we did just that!  But having the caravan has encouraged us to go on rallies and we now sit outside again like we did with the camper. Setting up used to take ages but then we used to take everything we thought we might need but never used.  On our last couple of trips out we left out as much as possible, including the awning because rain was forecast and set up time was really legs down, kettle on!

You get very strange looks if you sleep in the awning when you have a caravan!  I know because we always sleep in the awning annexe in the summer months.  We have a 5 foot double height airbed which I find much more comfortable than sharing a 4 foot bed and I love the feeling of still sleeping under canvas.  Then, in the autumn we go back into the caravan.  Best of both worlds in my opinion!

I've never regretted changing to a van. Having said that my one holiday in a tent was an experience that I hated and would never repeat.

OH on the other hand is tall and moans about the length of the bed. He occasionally sleeps in the awning but strangely enough I never hear him moan on a cold night.

We originally got a tent so we could have weekends away but the time that was needed to set up and pack away meant that we barely had any time away. The caravan has changed that and we frequently go away for weekends.
