Its not really worth fitting a tracker unless one is required as a condition of insurance. Nobody would really want a caravan back after it had been nicked so the tracker is for the benefit of the insurance co. not the owner.
One can imagine scenarios where despite a tracker locating a stolen caravan recovery would still be difficult & police may be reluctant to act unless as part of a wider investigation into a specific gang of caravan thieves.
Struggling with the bit "recovery would still be difficult" police find it, it's stolen, it gets recovered. Or are caravans different from cars?

Caravans are often stolen by gangs of gypsies, cars usually not, enough said.

So the police don't recover from gypsies?
They usually prefer to put the whole gang out of business. During an ongoing investigation it might be counter productive to recover individual caravans as they are found. It would probably be considered a waste of police resources to recover a single caravan from a large traveler site anyway, it might take a bit more than a couple of cops in a panda car.
Nobody would want their caravan back if it had been lived in. The usefulness of trackers on high end caravans targeted by thieves is mainly to aid police investigations & to allow insurance companies to recover their property eventually.

Do you know where these gypsies were based whilst in Luton? Two people have told us something about them being behind a church somewhere but that they have moved on. Wher in Luton are you Masekwm?

Really confused now, first paragraph mentions no recovery, then second mentions recovery. So bottom line, with your extensive knowledge of the workings of the British Police(and everything else)do the owners get their van back?

They were In Stockwood Park again http://www.heart.co.uk/dunstable/news/local/travellers-moved-stockwood-park/ but the funeral was huge with traffic reported on the news and a general disregard for the parking on West Street, Dunstable.
Our neighbours Odyssey went from Leighton Buzzard overnight on Monday, another large single axle with gas used to remove the hitch lock irc.
I'm in Lewsey

Thanks, we missed all that on the news, didn't know they were in Stockwood Park again. We are in Limbury/Runfold, not far from you. Sorry to hear about your neighbour's van.

Police won't go on to a gypsy site to recover a caravan as they are usually too scared to. They could probably charge the gypsys for a string of offences as well as theft, no car tax, no insurance, etc but they just don't bother.

So lets get this right. If a car is stolen then its blues and twos plus helecopter. High speed chase for a car worth nowt but a £20000 caravan niccked and they say contact your insurers heres your crime number.

Fatbum, totally agree, have a relative that works for the local police force and apparently when a raid on a gypsy site is needed it takes weeks of planning and half the police force, as they are playing the racism card. when they have hacked at your pride and joy with a gas axe and then dragged it across numerous fields to get away, would you want it found and returned. I wouldnt.......

So the Police take no action on a crime commited and the insurance company are quite willing to pay out for a brand new van, even though they know where the van is ![](https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/forum_images/smiley29.gif)
No wonder premiums are so high. Oh and I take what you say with a large shovel of Fleur De Sel
