Our shower works a treat. Plenty o` water at the right temp too. But I prefer to nip to the blocks. Wakes me up in a morning. Particularly if it`s down to freezing. Love it! Makes me tingle . . .
------------- Peripheral people don`t have as much excitement but they sure live longer
When we bought our first van we didnt think the bathroom was an important issue so we bought one with the toilet in front of the shower. With 2 young children we quickly realised what a faff going to the shower blocks were, carrying all your towels etc and even forgetting the towels then only realising once youve had the shower that youve forgot your towel-oops! Needless to say the bathroom is a major issue for us when choosing a van and like others have said if your are hooked into water on an allserivce pitch then you would be crazy not to use your shower in the comfort of your own van! The shower in our van is there to be used and we also stay on alot of CLs that have no toilets/showers.

We have an end bathroom with a separate shower cubicle and tend to use this rather than the site showers, unless the site showers are of a particularly high standard. Even then, if it's cold/wet/dark or we can't be bothered we use the shower in the van.
We use ours, its like a hotel on suite nice and warm and you dont have to clean it before you get in if some inconsiderate person cant be botherd to clean up after themselves, why have something and not use it.
There again some people don't cook in there vans or wash up or god forbid use the toilet.....but spend all day wiping it down a polishing the windows to show off there new caravan.

I have to agree with you there Darklord. Although i do "sometimes" use the site showers i can never understand people who won't use their toilet or wash up in their van.
4 people (2 adults, 2 teenagers) = 8 showers a day in our van. We find it is so much easier to take the people to the water rather than the other way round. That's a lot of clean/dirty water to lug about.
The shower in the van is there for emergency use only for us, which is why we pick our sites carefully and go for ones with good facilities.

Each to their own.
Hear hear! We are on a site with the cleanest, warmest wet rooms I have ever found so have never used the van shower. By the time we had filled the aquaroll, removed all the fishing rods from the shower and emptied the wastemaster, we can shower, dress in comfort and be back in the van.
We always use the shower in the van. Opening the roof vent and putting on the blown air (all directed to the washroom and some heat if needed), and wiping down the shower thoroughly afterwards will give it the necessary protection. Overall, using our own shower is more comfortable, and the whole operation takes less time than going to the on site facilities.
At six years old, our previous van had suffered no effects of damp when traded in - the sales guy actually complemented us on how well looked after it was.
Take care of the van, obviously, but use the facilities to the full - don't go overboard to guard them ready for the next buyer to enjoy the van more than you did. After all, you will have paid out a lot more for it than the next owner - ENJOY!
We never use the shower - except for storing fruit and veg - water and wine. We have caravanned since 1981 and had our first shower van in 1986. Too much water and vapour around in a box which becomes a problem when moisture gets in. Anyway, it is much more sociable to walk to the shower block and converse with the natives.
But the trend is otherwise and folk have changing rooms behind the bed. Seems to me a space waster in a way - and a weight putter onnerer. But each to his - or is it her in reality? - own.
We use our shower all the time - to store the mattress toppers, keep the aqua roll & waste tank while travelling, and to hang our cold weather gear, for when we arrive back in the UK

We always enjoy folk trudging to the wash up area with bowls full of washing up, WHY dont people use the facilities in there caravans? Its a mystery to me.

It means they can TALK to people and be friendly. I am amazed at just how untalkative people on campsites have become over the years. When we first started, I was surprised at just how often we were asked round for a drink having washed up together. But now......... unless we are abroad, where life is much more talkative
Thats because its always raining in the UK so everyone stays in their vans or awnings!! In france everyones sat outside chatting and drinking red wine - heaven!
Reason we bought a caravan is for the home comforts of a proper toilet/shower/cooker central heating etc etc or we would have carried on camping!
It's not the rain. It happens - or not - rain, hail, sun or sleet. Mind you the snow has brought out the tongue in people. We started caravanning in '81 and have noticed the change in the Brits over the years. Abroad, it is often the Brits who fail to natter. The French have commented on the lack of chat from the Brits and have seen us as being 'odd'. We probably are - and certainly do no see ourselves as 'typical Brits.' When I tell the French that in the UK it is the bloke who inhabits the washing up sinks, my counterparts find that most amusing.
You are right re the caavan v the tent in the UK. The weather does make the caravan a 'better' option. The comforts are good - heating, light, etc. As yet we have not used a tv when caravanning - dvds instead; and have used the oven once to heat a pizza - otherwise it acts as a cupboard; and never showered - apart from when we knock it accidentally. We could make use of a microwave however, but have resisted that so far.
