Sorry i might be controversial here but how has every body arrived at the such high costs of caravan owner ship. We have one (bought new cash) 4 yrs ago, is stored and used approx 10 times /year. Surely costs would be considered prior to purchasing and one would have thought these may increase.
Still don't even think cc sites are expensive when you consider most commercial sites you have to pay for your dog, awning, pup tent, awning extension, car, etc. Caravanning is just an expensive hobby accept it.
Should imaging camping is just as expensive with pitch fees as well.

We have the approach that this year it would have cost us as a family of four £4300.00 to go to Italy for two weeks , fist two weeks of summer holidays( i have fixed holidays), + holiday cloths and holiday money approx £2000.00. So all in for £6300.00. OK there are cheaper but we like Italy.
When caravanning gets this expensive i will consider doing something about it. We had 9 holidays this year total cost pitch fees £720.00 c.a. and fuel £350.00, oh and 1 refill propane £19.90. Food is not considered as we would have to purchase this anyway even if we stayed home, entertainment, Tesco vouchers, and other vouchers (website searches) and caravan club vouchers, it can be done if you are prepared to do the leg work.

Have a good 2013 caravanning.
merry Xmas and a Happy new year to you all.
Chris

We have gone to a seasonal pitch next year, £2000 inc winter storage. Our van is 21 yrs old and paid for, no insurance and was paying £400 a year storage, which makes the seasonal pitch £1600 in reality. We have foster children and last time we went away abroad for a week, in summer hols. It cost a lot more than the site fees. The site is only 15 miles from home so not bad fuel wise. I look on it has a hobby and you consider how much people spend on there hobbies, fishing, golf etc. I dont think its too bad.

agree with taxi Paul, we are seasonal for the 2nd year. £1700 our van will be 14 years old next year so its quite happy resting its self on a nice site!!  we spent £5,000 on a holiday abroad this for 5 of us in the summer inc spend so next year no holiday abroad and  i am in front by a few grand with what we will save

We have got rid of the big tow car which was costing a fortune in road tax insurance and maintenance, wife nip's round in a economical corsa an i have my company car so a saving there too.

We also got so much use out of the van last year, far more than we would have touring, site is open till 1st Jan so not finished for this year yet as new years eve to look forward to, back open 1st March and off we go again!!!

Seasonal appears to becoming more popular on the site we are on, out of the 100 pitches 60 are seasonal and there is a massive waiting list, i appreciate it would not suit all but for its it great.

I know everyone is in different financial situations but if it is something you want to do you will find a way around it, I have always been one for camping as that is what we used to do as a family when I was a child I also done a lot of camping with scouts so I'm used to it, my wife did try it the 1st time we went camping I was soaked through a water promo coat putting the tent up but after that was good and she loved the second time we went but as both out parents have caravans and get away quite a lot in them we decided to get one so bought our caravan for £825 in July costs me £8.50 a month to insure and apart from buying the odd thing for it it hasn't cost us a penny we have a big enough drive to put it on and it is light enough to tow with just about anything even though we both have cars that coul to a much bigger van we don't need it at the moment,

Hope what ever you decide on doing it is the right choice for you an best of luck with the future
