I'm on my second swift having only changed my first because the layout of the second suits me better and I  can honestly say my vans are perfect for me

It appears Bailey have now produced over 20000 units with alutech construction. Based on complaints aired on this and other forums the problem rate is very low, I think the other manufacturers would like to match their record! There appears to be far more complaints about the other manufacturers.

But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

It's such a shame that people like you stick up for these caravan firms.
My brother and I both purchased Bailey Pegasus 534 at the same time Both have major damp in the fron lockers and need extensive work.
In this day and age if you can't make a caravan that is waterproof you should not be making caravans.
Also if you were the one with water ingress I think you would feel a little bit different.
Bailey you are a total disgrace sort your selves out and learn how to make caravans that do not leak .

I think it's a shame owners like you ( who are in the minority whether you like it or not ) keep repeatedly posting negative comments relating to the brand.

We have a Bailey and know many with them and none have been problematic. I understand it's frustrating if you have issues but I for one don't want to hear about them time and time again.

This is an open forum and those folks with issues have as much right as you or others to post.
Folks are not making this up, they have a poorly finished caravan and are not happy, can't you understand that.

If you do not want to hear about it, then simply don't read the post.

The thing is, if you have only owned one Bailey (etc) and it was damp, then 100% of your experience of that manufacturer's vans will be that they make damp vans.

We looked at buying a new Bailey but after seeing the finish on most of their vans we decieded against, if they dont care about what you can see then they wont give a dam about what you cant. when looking at new vans we also found some paper towels shoved between the wall and floor joint, not good enough Bailey.

I didn't say they were making it up. It just makes for drab reading on this forum and there are a few and only a few who are dominating this forum recently with their doom and gloom.

My view is deal with your problem and move on. If you don't like the clan take the retailer to account for it or sell it.

Rather odd that this thread, which appeared to die out over two years ago was disinterred, rather than a new thread being created...
If I look back through history far enough, I can find much support for whatever ideals I espouse - slavery, human sacrifice, sun worship - look back far enough and there are countless supporters....

You can only "deal with the problem and move on" if the dealers or manufacturers are able to fix the fault, which does not always happen as some post prove.

I am mystified how you cannot understand how these folks feel after having spent thousands of pounds on new caravans, feeling a bit upset and coming on the forum to share their feelings.
You seem the kind of customer these dealers and manufacturers pray for when they sell a faulty new caravan?

I say chaps, I think I might have a bit of a leak in the van as you walk in the showroom in trunks, snorkel and flippers

We had a Pegasus 534 for 4 years, no damp. We have had our Unicorn 2 Vigo for about 18 months with only a couple of minor faults, which have been fixed.
It does appear that there is inconsistent quality control in the industry
This is not acceptable and I have every sympathy for anyone whose expensive purchase is faulty!

And how about condensation? I believe in heating a van in winter, you cant do that in storage usually. . . .mould is bound to happen given time. You caN smell it as soon as you step inside. Cant blame the mfacurer for that.

Heating your van in winter will cause more condensation.

Well I can only say I've had 2 Baileys, both damp. AluTec is a bit of a joke. Great to make a better construction, but then to put a but join seam across the roof, and make it watertight by sticking a bit of plastic over the join is ludicrous.

Yes our current van lasted less than a year before water poured through this join. We were lucky because we had a cover on it, otherwise much of the interior would have been damaged had it gone un-noticed for any time. - the bed, wall cupboards carpets, and the rest of the soft furnishings ruined with mould.

I'm sorry if you hate reading this Checkley and it does reduce the value of your van when it comes to sell it, but Bailey are crap. My repairs are not yet complete, the last part has just arrived from Bailey - 5 month later.

I've only ever had one caravan, my present Swift, and it's been faultless. Phew!

Statistically, if, say, 90% of caravans are properly made we have a nine in ten chance of getting a good'un. But for those one in ten it's an utter disaster - perhaps £20,000+ of a disaster!

People may have a point when they say caravans, being far lower volume products than cars and more reliant on hand-building, can never be as reliable as cars. Cars only became reliable when they were built by robots, and exotic hand-built cars are now bottom of the reliability league - ask any Aston Martin owner if you are lucky enough to know one.

But given that, say, everyone accepts 10% of caravans will have faults, perhaps serious ones, one thing caravan manufacturers CAN do and SHOULD do is ensure that the unfortunate buyers of these lemons are sorted as a priority. They should do this by holding their franchised dealers to account and ensuring that the dealers are motivated by the threat of losing the franchise BUT ALSO ensuring that dealers are properly paid for warranty work. If this happened dealers would be happy to accept any caravan for warranty work and we would avoid the scenario of someone having to travel to their original dealer - perhaps hundreds of miles away.

Instead of this, we see them trying to sidestep obligations, putting the buyers through hell, and taking an age to get anything done.

It's a scandal.

Paying dealers the market rate for repairs would be a start. This is the reason many won't take on warranty work for caravans they didn't supply as they lose money on the work done.
