While I do understand how the OP feels - I know I would if it was me, (but only if they got a lot for it) and you would if you use Freecycle in the spirit of giving something to others who maybe can't afford to buy it. But I do tend to think that one of the main reasons why people use Freecycle is because they can't be bothered with the hassle of selling it themselves either on ebay or at a car boot sale. Once you have given it away, it is no longer yours and to put conditions on ownership is not very fair in my opinion.
I don't understand why you all feel so annoyed about a bit of entrepreneurship with people trying to make a bit of money out of others unwanted goods.
As to taking things to the tip rather than use Freecyle -well I suppose you are putting something back because the Council will recycle it and swell their coffers but how mean spirited is that, to deny someone something for free because you think they might sell it.
Give it away and think no more about it or make the effort and sell it and then buy yourself something nice.

Can't agree. If it was given to someone claiming that it would be a chance for them to experience caravanning at minimum expense, then the supposed hard-up wannabee caravanner sells it within days, I think that miffness is justified.

I don't think it wi bother them there that hard faced. Think I'm mad as well cos all candy needed was a patch of damp fixing and I'm sure we could have had a shower fitted yet the new van has been nothing but one problem after another we had 2 weekends booked we gave cancels cos she's got so many things needs sorting. Every time we help someone we get walked all over. I can not see why peopel don't help others
If it was me I would contact them and say that since they no longer want the van can I have it back as they agreed NOT to sell it and I know someone who does want it.

DISAGREE! Fallenangel gave this away as a kindess to these people, they are now trying to make money from it. Not only TELLING LIES TO Fallenangel BUT ALSO TELLING LIES in the advert by all accounts. THATS WHY I AM ANNOYED. I would ask them to return it if they no longer want it.

-----------------------------------------------------------what strange point of view..you don't understand why she is annoyed? you can't have read the original post carefully ..this was given to be used by what was thought to be a less fortunate family NOT to be sold for profit !! and btw Freecycle expressly forbids people selling on what they have been given
Heres the reply I got from him when I emailed through the ebay ad telling him what I thought about him!!!
Hi I have had many weekends away in the caravan I am telling no lies and we have fixed not just the slight damp issue but also the window locks and purchased items we needed to use it hence the sale of the awning and other items. It was given to us correct I have spent money on it I am in need of a bigger van now we have tried caravanning and know we enjoy it I am doing nothing wrong I didn't collect the caravan with the purpose to sell it and make a profit its been used by us and enjoyed and now we are selling it to raise some cash to get a bigger one as I have six kids plus another 2 which will be in tow which are my cousins aged 14 and 16 who have just lost their dad its a shame people have to be so petty and pathetic. The amount of abuse im getting via messages is unreal at the end of the day I was given the caravan was grateful used it did work on it and maintained it didn't change the look or décor as I loved that and now need to sell it as I need a bigger caravan for my family. Yes I could give it away if I were to do that there would be no way of me being able to get another caravan. Not being selfish ive given things away and later seen them for sale.

have just sent the seller this message "hi,
didn't realise that you can sell items given to you on Freecycle ...how do you go about it ? i could do with making some money"
This was the message I sent, had to be careful what I said on Ebay..
Dear ace_times,
Your nose should also be growing with the lies you are telling. You have not had many holidays with your family in this caravan etc etc etc.
You got this via freecycle from a very kind person and you are now abusing that kindness.
Its all over he camping and caravan forums about you!!!!!

had a reply "Hi I am not selling the caravan to make money yes I was given it from freecycle I have used it and also repaired the damp patch and window locks and also purchased items which we have used when we have had weekends away in it hence the awning for sale I have 6 kids and they have loved it can I just point out I have had the caravan for 5 months and am having to sell it as I now have an extra 2 kids my cousins age 14 and 16 who will be coming away with us after just losing their dad. The money I get will go to a bigger caravan to accommodate us better I am selling it with all the extras I have purchased in hope to receive the optimum amount so I can get a bigger van. Nothing to do with trying to make money or anything else. I was given it used it spent money on it and now im deciding to sell it hope this answers your question"

tempted to put a bid in for lets say ...£8,000,000
And if someone bid just below that you would have entered into a legally binding contract. Even if no other bids are entered you would have entered into a contract to buy it and collect it at a price as yet unknown.
I assume you would then walk away from your contract. 2 wrongs don't make a right. That's why ebay gets a bad reputation.
