Ive noticed a lot of newer vans seem to have softish suspension. . . if this is independent, you`ll get a lot o` lurching and maybe snaking thrown in! I`ve seen them doing it too. Doesn`t look good.

Consider fitting shock absorbers as this significantly reduces the chances of a snake happening when being passed by or overtaking a HGV.

You can buy them direct from Alko and type depends on the weight of your caravan.

I have 4 shockers on my caravan. Kindly fitted by the previous owner. I have had the caravan out a lot over the summer and it has been a good ride. Having said that, I did not have much movement with my old (1996) Coachman without shockers. Including a trip from Northumberland to Benidorm.

My shockers are so good, I sometimes think Ole Daisy-May has no suspension at all; they are coloured black. . . my caravan does not weigh 4000kg. Even with Wifey on board . . .

Fitted shocks to our Adria Thames.
Feels very stable as a result..
Easy to fit onto Alko Chassis. Did it in about an hour as I had to shift the movers slightly.
Big white vans made it sway a little before, not anymore.
I'll never have a van without them now. They're that good!

I imagine they`d half the wear and tear in your rubber suspension by restricting movement. Sounds like they should be fitted standard - why aren`t they?

Foreign caravans generally have always had them as standard but they remain an option on UK built caravans unless new ones now have them as standard, I don't know. I have a mid 80s caravan, the rubber suspension is still ok & it tows just fine.
If you buy an older caravan with shockers at least one is usually leaking anyway so you have the option of spending out replacing them or just removing them.
------------- Regards, Jack+Jon.

New vans have shock absorbers and they do improve handling and the quality of your tow, I've towed with and without and the difference is marked, your van SA equipped van won't be leaping around over every bump you encounter!

They are not expensive to replace and are under £100 a pair.
