Well I have just taken delivery or my brand new Super sirocco and I am absolutely amazed at the quality of the build and the van itself.

It is simply outstanding and with only 2 very minor niggles (one of which is operator error) and the other being the Avtex ariel not picking up many channels when my home ariel picks up everything.

Going away this weekend for the first time following living in the van on the drive last weekend, so hopefully wont end up eating my words this time next week!!

Unreservedly a brilliant van that knocks the competition well and truly out of play!

Hi its no good having joints that supposedly dont let water in if they cant stop the rear panel cracking. The vans will still get damp through the cracks . The other worry is that the solid construction may be contributing to the panels failing so quickly ?

I have been and had a good look around mine today, fingers crossed, so far its good. Dry as far as l can see on the inside, and were planning to do a big season pre clean and set up next week to check that everythings running ok after the winter.

Ours is still only 6mths old, so only time will tell, we will see how we go with it after its completed its first full season.

Hi to you all. I have just read on another forum that a member has a 2013 Elddis Avante 624 (SoLiD I believe) the one with the GRP under skin that has the floor from the rear to the front chest de-laminated.
The manufacturer is apparently 'Going to Fix It' by inserting an additional aluminium section for support beneath the floor and injecting the floor and also adding additional timbers to the floor.
WHAT!!!

When our horse trailer floor got soggy I phoned Robinsons the retailer of the trailer and the french manufacturers replaced it with a brand new floor even though the trailer was 5 years old. Of course there is no furniture in a horse trailer.

I think all horse trailer manufacturers now use aluminium for floors. Maybe caravan manufacturers will all stop using wood one day.

Hi brianconwy. Whilst I appreciate your comment, the post that I put-up was relative to a Twin Axle Caravan that is made by a manufacturer that has made al-sorts of claims as to why their later products are better than a great many others. I also understand from what I have read that this is one of the new SoLiD built models.
S for Strong, L for Light and believe it or not D for DRY!!!!!!!??
This new revelation in caravan building was allegedly "Developed Tried & Tested for over 5years". It is also advertised promoted as being backed by a 10 YEAR water ingress warranty.
Unless the owner of the affected caravan knows something that has not been disclosed to the readers of the forum then this is a Cowboy Repair strategy and not one that a buyer would expect with a relatively new caravan and one that has had so much publicity and hype in the caravan world.

I was just comparing the responses from Eldis and the horse trailer manufacturer. The trailer was well out of warranty and yet the French firm had a guy fit a brand new floor ( he was coming over to deliver new stock ). Caravan manufacturers do only as much as they need to.

Hi brianconwy. Yes, I figured that but perhaps it could have been made a little clearer. Some manufacturers not only do 'only as much as they need to',they often go out of their way to do absolutely nothing at all and that includes accepting that there are issues behind the problems that really do need addressing and that Building Trade Cowboy repairs cannot be successfully employed on caravans.

Hi Twin axle, the said caravan in question is only a year old as well. He has had numerous other problems as well like so many other Solid owners including myself. To date after one year I have had, light fittings changed, light switches, fly screens ,heater modified twice, aerial changed( still doesn't work) and cracks on rear panel. I have said on another forum that I do believe that the owners of the 2013 models are all guinea pigs to these vans.
We have been treated appallingly by Elddis , who quite simply don't care. Now I've gone down the line of Soga and made enquiries but were told we have to give them the right to do repairs. It has taken me nearly three months to get a response over the cracks on the rear panel. The solution is to stick to caps over the cracks.
I like so many I am sorry that I ever touched a Elddis van, were they have killed any enjoyment we have out of caravanning now. If it wasn't for the fact I would loose so much money I would get shut and give up the whole thing. Scoobz.

Hi i will be contacting the dealer tomorrow regarding the cracks in my affinity that i found this weekend. I have had 6 months of seemingly endless warranty repairs being done and, just as i wrongly thought things were looking better, this happens . my cracks are at the the top of the panel from the awning rail so it looks like a new panel, but what is going to prevent that from cracking as well? I really want to know what is causing the problem in the first place but dont think there is much chance of that

Hi, just to add it was me that started this thread but I really did not expect all these problems to be happening. I can honestly say I regret buying the affinity and will not be buying new again, would happily get rid tomorrow but would be too much of loss

Hi Scoobz. From where I am sitting the issues with your caravan manufacturer and the apparent and deplorable lack of 'In House' quality control and that is before the products get out into the eager and easily influenced hands of the buying public/guinea pigs really beggars belief.
Further back in this thread there was a young lady that had mentioned cracking of the side panels at the lower corners of the side windows. This particular issue is a great deal more of a problem that people would believe.
If it is on the forum that I broadly mentioned in one of my posts then the best, longest running and most contributed to post/issue has been removed from general viewing.
There was a strong belief on parts of the forum that this was carried out under pressure from the manufacturer. An agent/employer from that manufacturer was regularly observed by some of the members as scanning the posts and even going into the profiles/details of the more prolific posters.
One of those posters has apparently been restricted from posting ANYTHING at all but can occasionally still be seen as signed in but nothing has ever been posted, not even after being scrutinised and approved.
There is generally only one direction that dealers and manufacturers of any product will end up going when they have the disregard for the buying public that this one and some of the dealers that sell the products have been reported as seemingly have displayed.
Remember Fleetwood and Avondale and others consigned to the caravan history books.

Hi twin axle. That said person you are talking about ,and wrongly banished a member, simply because he could not beat him in a argument,is doing the same again on a thread regarding cracked rear panels. I have asked the question of him today is he a Elddis member of staff. He is trying his best to goad people into a slanging match so he can terminate the thread.

If the said manafacturer put more effort into trying to resolve these major issues instead of trying to copy a said Russian leader in suppressing any bad comments, then the matters would be resolved a long time ago.
TTR for now, sorry Ta Ta for now.

Hello and good afternoon Scoobz, albeit a rather overcast one and also a little blustery. I have scrutinised the forum and others that have referred to the newly discovered issues with the much hailed salvation to caravan building and construction methods. It would appear that the apparent attempt to create a Monocoque body construction albeit by/with the use of powerful adhesives has seemingly failed or it would at first sight appear that way!!!!
The issue of the de-laminating floors on certain models that have come to light only very recently might not be what they at first appear to be??
As I understand it the moisture is getting into the floor via the most likely route of running down the side walls and entering the body at the lower positions of the joints of the front and rear caps/moulded panels.
Could this be as a result of a disgruntled employer that is not applying the adhesives and or sealants as is intended? Could it be someone that is no longer employed but has an equally disgruntled pal and a 'Mole' that is assisting in sabotage tactics.
The reintroduction of the Compass brand is a little early to evaluate and indeed have the affected caravans under the Elddis brand been early models from the SoLiD construction method and the issue is now no longer a problem on caravans after a certain date and or production schedule/batch?
TTFN from TWAF. I have only just realised,it is just as-well that I didn't use the other ID that I could have used, TheTwinAxleToureringScouser. Perhaps another day for another forum !!!!!
