I always feel that you get a lot further with dealers and suppliers without threatening them and certainly not putting all the info on a forum on the internet. A personal visit to Elddis would have far more dramatic effects imo

I would have thought that, if I had spent 33 grand on a new van then endured six months of dissatisfaction with the dealer's efforts, I might feel that "threatening" them by putting that information in a public domain was actually fairly mild as a course of action.
I would have thought driving over to Elddis would just have led to you cooling your heels in reception then driving home after someone kindly explained the Sale of Goods Act meant that they had no contract with you. Would be very interested to know if you have information to the contrary?

Irmscher - did you try contacting Wolfman?

John, I appreciate your point, but I have had problems for approaching 6 months!

To then find out they were aware that the roof was dented and they'd concealed it (or ignored it), is out of order in the extreme. I have given them plenty opportunity (7 weeks!!) to decide what they wish to do to resolve this. I have had no answer whatsoever from them, only calls not returned and excuses. So yes Jack is correct we move to the next level, publicity, informing trade bodies (NCC), and legal action. I'm a tolerant professional person, but I take issue with being defrauded by being sold damaged goods instead of new. No matter what your angle, I didn't do anything to deserve this. Note this is not a one off if you read online, but i will be one of very few to commence legal action imminently.

Note that I haven't had any response from Glossop to my recent letter, but that only proves the point that they are not complying with SOGA obligations, which works in my favour. Either way this will100% be resolved in my favour eventually. The UK legal system will win eventually regardless of how big and invincible Glossop might believe they are!   I have nothing to hide or fear by speaking out as long as it remains accurate and therefore legal!

I can understand your frustration. As you probably know Swift have their own forum and I have found that if I want to know something then I send a message directly to one or other of their directors or technical staff. Brings almost immediate results. I have noticed that putting your problem up on the forum doesn't get the same result. Your postings, whilst warning others, probably aren't read by either Glossop or Elddis!

I realise that Elddis don't have a forum but I am sure had I been in your position I would probably have taken the van to Elddis at their factory and cut out Glossop who really do have a bad name on nearly all the forums.
Good luck with your legal route as I am sure you will win through in the end.

Unfortunately John Elddis do read the posts regularly on one other forum but they chose not to answer, and put present and future customers minds at rest this is in my opinion bad business practice and shows complete disdain towards their customer base.

For our sins we have purchased double figures of vans from Glossop. Our findings are in accord with this thread. We have found over the years customer service has gradually ground to a halt. For instance we purchased a new Coachman and at point of sale ordered a cupboard for in the washroom. Four years later we got a call from them your cupboard is now in stock. (we had traded that van in a year earlier). We went to pick up our Swift Celebration 630 which we had been quoted and paid for an all wheel drive mover at handover I asked where the mover was and Mr Hodges our sales man had forgotten to put it on the order, they fitted a mover but it was fitted wrongly . The wiring had been trimmed to fit YOU MUST NEVER shorten the leads. Five electronic boards later I spoke to a gent from Powrwheel at the Manchester show and the whole system was replaced 10 out of 10 powrwheel. Service Department !!!In addittion to the mover cock up.Whilst the caravan was in for its first service a tyre was punctured so they replaced it,(these things happen) Next service my attention was drawn to the fact that I was towing a vehicle with a tyre that was the wrong load rating and it was illegal to tow with it on the van. Guess whats coming next yes it was the one they had replaced for me a year earlier. I had done three months in Scotland covering 4500 miles with an illegal tyre.
After quite a bit of discussion they changed it. Needless to say we go no where near Glossop Caravans anymore and never ever will   Buyer Beware all that is a bargain may bite your wallet .MINUS -100% satisfaction index.

We are experiencing similar poor communication from Elddis Customer Care regarding a leaking roof on our Buccaneer Schooner, which we discovered in December - the repair agents seem better. But I do not look forward to being without my van for a lengthy period, whilst it goes back to the factory for full repair and may not even then be resolvesd from what you've said of your experiences.

Hope your problem gets resolved satisfactorily soon, as a point of interest we also bought from Glossops - whose Sales Team jave failed to return my call.

We bought an Elddis Avante 515 from Bridgend Caravans 2 years ago. A week after we took delivery of the new £17000 van we took it out to test it. On the second day of using the cooker it had quite a few rust spots on the hob, the sink bowl was the same and the chrome on the grill. The grill kept cutting out after doing one side of bread for toast. The trim in the shower was bowing, the bed slat ends were split and I felt that after all the new vans we had this was by far the most expensive and substandard we'd ever bought. Whilst we were still on site I phoned the Caravan sales place which were 10 minutes along the road to come and have a look at it. They said they were too busy and could we take photos of the rust and email them over. We did this on the Monday and waited! That was in May and we were going away in August. My husband phone a few times only to be told Elddis were dragging their heals but they were on to it. A week before we were due to go away fed up and angry, I phoned Bridgend Caravans and complained to the owner. He had no knowledge of our complaints or of anything being wrong with the cooker or sink. He said he would take a cooker and sink out of the van they had on the forecourt if it was the same model and deliver it the next day. Unfortunately it wasn't the same model so we had to go on holiday armed with a George Foreman grill to cook on as the hob was very rusty and the grill didn't work. When we came back from holidays we took the caravan back to Bridgend with the list of faults for them to put right. By then the caravan wheel had developed a squeaking noise so we added that to the list. That was the 3rd week of August

Near the end of September my husband received a phone call asking if we had overloaded the caravan, (bearing in mind it's a five berth van and there was only 2 of us and we've been caravanning since 1984 and always check nose weight etc.) to which my husband said no. That was the end of the conversation.

In October half term I'd had enough and phoned Bridgend to ask about the van and why it had taken 2 months to fix the cooker, sink and other things on the list. The reply I got shocked me! They said that Elddis had quibbled about the new axle. We knew nothing about an axle problem. It turned out that the squeaking we had heard on the wheel was in fact a faulty axle which had been fitted to the van in the factory! They also pointed out that we could have had a serious accident at any time and Elddis didn't want to do anything about it. Bridgend had to fight them tooth and nail AND drive over to Germany to pick up a new axle!

I cannot fault the service we had from Bridgend after we came back from holidays but as for Elddis they are shocking. Two years down the line of our van and all the hinges are rusting very badly, the steel coating is coming off the interior locker handles and the metal rod that the rear table goes on is also rusted. The legs on the table has chunks of rust on them and we have only used the van for 17 days since the repair work has been done and we store it in a purpose built aired lockup. My heart is just no in the van at all.

I have put reviews about the van on various Elddis sites but they soon take it off and they refuse to answer emails I've sent. I wouldn't touch another Elddis van with a barge pole and I certainly tell my friends and anyone who asks me not to buy one.

Letter before action and take them to court for the cost of the van?

You are officially rejecting it now and want a FULL refund of all money paid.

Keep it short and to the point. Major facts only. They have failed to repair the caravan and you conclude that its unfit for purpose.

Because the general points about the Sale of Goods Act and customer rights in general need spelling out over and over again until every company starts operating in a decent way to every customer every single time.
