Also it is much better value than camping gaz I used when tenting, even for a lite bottle.

Jtaw - I know, stupid isn't it...of course it'll run out when you are using it, but Why does it have to be in the middle of making a bacon sarnie, that you simply must have.

Checked online and all Go Outdoors stores appeared to have stock of Calor Lite. Went to our local store tonight and exchanged one without problem (except I bought other items as well which I didn't know I needed).

After having the standard bottles years ago, wanted the Lites, couldn't get them in exchange for the steel ones, had to start from scratch with a new agreement. At Easter wanted to exchange one and was offered a standard instead of a Lite, not good when you take out a new agreement to get the Lites, anyway, called in a the dealers today, they inform me that Calor have sent them an email this week, telling them they must exchange like for like, they currently have fourteen in stock so can exchange mine ok, plus it seems I have acquired another Calor Lite also which is surplus to requirements as I have no need for three.

I think you've fallen foul of the "dealers imagination" regarding this claim. The Calor exchange policy states they will exchange the lite bottles for either the 6kg or 7kg bottles, confirmed by my local Calor Centre earlier today too.

I don't think it's a case of 'dealer's imagination', i think it's a directive from Calor.

The web site does indeed state the exchange policy i.e. that you can swap a 6/7kg bottle for a Lite at no extra charge, but given the apparent shortage of Lite bottles I think Calor simply don't have enough Lite bottles to be able to supply demand of those wanting to exchange 6/7kg bottles.

My Calor centre are very flexible in terms of exchanging for Lite bottles e.g. I was able (last year) to swap a 13kg Patio Gas and 4.5kg butane for Lite cylinders, contrary to the Calor exchange policy. My dealer wasn't bothered what cylinder you brought in, as long as it was Calor you get get a Lite cylinder.

However, when I asked again recently when I was 'refilling' one of my Lites, they said they'd still take any cylinder for a Lite but at that moment in time (just last month) they were only exchanging Lites for Lites de to their being a shortage of the Lite cylinders. Not that they (my dealer) seemed to have a shortage as there was a massive stack of Lite cylinders in their yard!! I can only assume this, hopefully temporary, Lite for Lite policy has come down from Calor.

always makes me laugh when people say that (myself included) you will only ever run out of gas when you're using it...

Which is why I fitted an automatic gas changeover regulator to our two Lite bottles, because with having blown air heating in the FC, Sod's Law dictates that a cylinder would run out in the middle of the night when you were running the heating!

As for nose weight, just balance it out by placing articles to the rear of the axle to achieve the desired nose weight.

Sometimes that still isn't enough! On our FC we have the awning, poles, camping chairs all on the floor inside the FC, as far back as they will go i.e. inline/slightly behind the wheels and have moved things like 2 x 25m hook-up cables from the front locker to the under bench storage, again behind the wheels, so there's barely anything in the storage locker of any weight, other than the gas bottles, and if it wasn't for having two Lites then the nose weight would be over the limits. With the Lites it sits on 75kg (with full bottles) - so within the 80kg max of my towbar - but with normal bottles it'd be another 9kg extra right on the hitch basically so would take me over the limit.

Calor have now created a new "Group C" for the Lite bottles in their exchange policy and state that a new agreement must be completed at a cost on £34.25.

Might be worth finding stockist who is unaware of this change of policy as the 7kg Butane and 6kg Propane can now longer be changed for a Calor Lite.

No surprise there really, given that they'd already obviously told dealers to only do Lite for Lite exchanges, now they've made it official exchange policy.
Just glad I got my Lites when I did!

Yep, still worth a try especially once Calor have got more Lites produced and in the supply chain.
My dealer had no problem swapping a 4.5kg and 13kg of mine for Lites (last year) - so they weren't even adhering to the exchange policy then. They said they still would've when I spoke to them recently, but were only able to swap Lites for Lites due to the shortage, so once the shortage is over they may revert back to allowing any cylinder to be swapped, or at least 6/7kg.

When I was in my local camping shop a couple of weeks ago, they said they had information from Calor stating they could now swap other bottles again for lites.
So maybe some suppliers are not working on recent info.

Sorry, beg your pardon Subar, you are right, they have created a new grouping for lites, cheeky buggers. Glad I managed to get hold of one for £10, as wasn't prepared to part with over £34 to buy one and that's before even paying for the gas.

For an alternative, and IMO "better" gas provider solution:

According to their website its another Homebase 15% off weekend.

For those wishing to start with Macgas [ex BP] Gaslights or get an exchange; the offer has previously worked on both the rental and gas charges.

10kg option, bottle rental and gas, price here ex discount:

http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10011&productId=209465&errorViewName=ProductDisplayErrorView&urlLangId=110&langId=110&storeId=10201

You will need one of these 27 mm clip on adaptors if also needing to be able to use French Le Cubes:

http://www.gasproducts.co.uk/acatalog/Gaslow_27mm_Clip-On_Adaptor.html?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=feedmanager&gclid=CL6bkPqSj74CFZMQtAod9xwAXg

or if only a Gaslight user one of these:

Last time we got gas, I ordered it from the calor website, they didn't have any supply issues, delivering on the day agreed and taking my old bottles.

Just come back from the Calor centre in Port Clarence where I swapped an empty lite bottle for a new one. He said that lite bottles were starting to be available now as caravanners/motorhomers are starting to bring back their empty ones. (They refill them on site).

I asked about swapping a lite bottle for a standard one and he confirmed that the lite bottles are now starting to be grouped separately but that, in an emergency, if you're out of gas he would swap out a standard for a lite and then swap back for a lite as long as you kept the receipt.
