I only watched about 10 minutes of that program, it was just about the lowest form of entertainment and pretty much portrayed caravanners as freaks.

The amount of jokes the next day I endured from work colleagues bthe next day was huge.

not forgetting £20 k commission for the sales rat Ray

I called into airstream last year at Teebay, the showroom was actually closed when i turned up but the manager was still there, i made it quite clear that i couldnt afford an airstream but was dying to have a look around them, the guy gave me a tour around the showroom looking at various models, He was very knowledgeable and was very passionate about the airstream brand. The caravans looked brilliant, really well made and all the fittings were top notch.
The guy i met was was the so called sales rat ray
i'm pretty certain if i was to turn up at any caravan dealers after hours and say i cant afford a caravan but can i have a look at some, i'd get well flirted

The airstream do look lovely but they don't stand up to the cold weather in winter. We have a friend who lived in one for three years, he bought it from Teebay. They are insulated with what looks like loft insulation but only a couple of inches thick so your heat just goes straight through the walls, also no double glazing so he had to use a fan heater as well as the alde heating. So when you're snuggled up all cosy in your white box (as airstreamers call them) and you see an airstream you'll now know they are freezing their bo****ks/tits off with a smile! Ours are built with 'fit for the purpose' insulation for winter caravanning unlike the airstreams. Shame really as they do look fab!

Recorded it and watched it last night, well part of it then deleted my recording. I think the program was staged for TV, if I'm wrong I hope none of them pitch next to me. Rubbish the part I watched.

For those that want American build quality at a third of the price of the Airstream but twice the luxury, you would be better looking at Calder 5th Wheelers.

If I had the space to store one of these, I'd buy one tomorrow.

I have always liked these but there may be a trade off in the number of suitable sites.

Yes, there are a number of things to consider before taking on any unit that does not "conform" to the normal tin top.

We found it bad enough with our wee Pop-up Caravan with its rear door and later the Folding Camper. Site Owners just did not know how to classify these and had no idea about sizes involved.
I think a 5th wheeler would explode their tiny minds!

As a campervan owner very amused by the similarities in the culture. We have a special vw wave and people get annoyed if its not returned. Most people colour coordinate accessories and interiors to match their vans. There are dub events like rallies with fancy dress and lots of alcohol and games and where people look into others vans for ideas and inspirations. There are show and shines with vans highly polished for competitions. There is a huge amount of snobbery with the different types...splitties,early late and brazilian bays , T4 and 5s etc with some people looking down on others for their choice of van. I think the programme demonstrated that if you are passionate about the lifestyle you overlook the toileting side of things and if you aren't you can't. My favourite moments were the facial expressions of the teenager when his mum relished the giving up of electrical items but he didn't. I think the moral of sunbed Johnny is that you may choose not to go to "Blackpool " but when camping you have to be prepared that "Blackpool" comes to you. Surprised they didn't show how campers love buying equipment and have long debates over pieces eg cadacs versus cobbs perhaps that's another episode.

I think the programme was exactly what I expected it to be. The title said it all to me. Take the most extreme caravanning characters and film it in such a way that they hope the audience finds entertaining.

The funny thing is though I think we all know or have come across the johnny sunbed character, the eccentric single male (that you are not really sure about) character and the snooty my caravan/tow car is better than yours type just not to the extremes shown on the programme.

If they filmed what really happens on a caravan/rally site then it would not make great mainstream TV - look at the caravan channel shows they are good and informative but lets be honest to a non caravanner would be totally dull.

Interestingly on the toot toot wave front I used to own a really old motorhome and 9 times out of 10 there would be an aknowledging wave when passing other motorhomes. I have not experienced this yet whilst towing a caravan.

Yes Nosaj, when in our Classic Campervans, we always got a return wave from other motor-caravanners, except foreign ones.
Much more comradery amongst the motorhome fraternity than amongst the caravanners. Not that that makes caravanning any less enjoyable.

For me, the only thing that I "learned" from this program was about the attitude that Airstream Owners have regarding their shiny tin cans on wheels. What a load of Bull.
Ugly looking things with creaky doors and plastic 1950's café interiors.

Watched in with the OH last night. Would love to know some more details, just out of interest. Only attended a UKCS rally, at Pillaton Pools, was nothing like the rally on there... What site was the Airstream rally at?
Sunbed said they were on a farm, but it looked a big (ish) site. Although they had a good laugh, would certainly not like to be pitched next to them that's for sure. But to be fair to him, he did pitch a long way from the other vanners.
The Airstream mob didn't do themselves proud did they?
That squeaky door! Why didn't they oil it?
Where was the dad? Presumably he buggered off long time ago!
Agree on the face of the teen when mum said it was a weekend without electronic devices, classic teenage frown.
And finally, toot toot wave? Why have I never heard of this before this program?
I thought it was good TV. Let's face it, if they recorded the goings on at a CC site for a weekend, it'd be a bit dull.
