Had two caravans in the past, a 1963 Sprite Alpine, then a 1966 Musketeer. That was many years ago. We had a break and bought a boat on inland waterways, but the locks started to take a toll on my back problems, so bought our Elddis in late 2013 for £500. Had two good years with it, and are now looking forward to our second time away in it this year. I see no reason to change it, unless it suddenly deteriorates. Even if we had to scrap it tomorrow, it would owe us nothing. We intend to keep it as long as we can though, as we are now retired and don't intend to get into debt replacing it.

Best Regards,
Colin

We have owned 6 caravans in 30years, although we had a ten year gap during that time doing the package holiday stuff and owning a few tents when our daughters were teenagers, so an average ownership time of around 3years per caravan.

Yesterday we went for our annual service, and my OH got caught up in the sales hype of being surrounded by the lines of gleaming new caravans. It wasnt long before he had a salesman in tow, and was looking at a 6berth dealer special!

Im sorry to say that l think hes starting to go a bit senile, not only was this new caravan almost a metre too long to fit on our drive, it was also far too heavy for even our CRV to tow, and would have caused squabbles amoungst our 12 grandchildren as to who's turn it was to occupy the spare berths everytime we went away!

The salesman did his best to find a caravan with 6 berths and a good sized separate shower which is essential for my disabled needs, inside a caravan with a max shipping length of 22ft, needless to say he failed miserably. Im just glad to stick with the caravan we have got, im far too old for running a holiday home full of squabbling children, even though l do love them dearly.
