Sounds very similar to ourselves, we were promised an April delivery but we haven't had the date confirmed by Preston Caravans yet.

Good luck with getting it asap , we could collect ours in March but we have house work going on so have postponed it for a couple of weeks. Do post your experience re the Kampa Rally , it is a great pity the vango awning doesn't open at the front .

Well said JTQ, we are in our 60 's and we are going to get one. Just trying to get a deal. Pack the bikes, wetsuits, beer and food and we're off. My advice would be : turn the TVs off and get out there and have some fun.

Hi, just read on the net all 2017 production sold, now taking bookings for 2018 build. So all you out there who think they will not hold their value it looks to me that demand is out stripping supply = good second hand demand.
So yet your orders in now for next year.

Hi Andy, that's what I understand also - it seems to have been a runaway success and Swift were taken a bit by surprise. I would have thought there will be a decent resale value given the level of interest, but we're not thinking that far ahead. I've also heard that the 2018 model will be pretty much the same as this years model.

Mrs Pooter and I are 60 this year ourselves but we love fell walking and are fairly active gym goers. We're looking forward to the Via Ferrata at Honiston, and some canoeing, as well as walking. The Swift guys at the Manchester show said they were seeing strong interest they were not expecting from our older-but-active age group.

There's been a quality control issue with our van, so we didn't take delivery today as expected we're hoping it'll be next week. I'd rather they fixed it at the factory than have to take it back to the dealer or Hull. However, we did our Hitching and Towing course in Macclesfield last weekend which was a good taster.

On the Towing course the other caravanners were surprised that the Basecamp doesn't come with a stabiliser. The only "official" option is the ATC trailer control which is not a stabiliser. Any thoughts on this anyone?

cheers

Mr Pooter.

If you are both experienced fell walkers I would recommend that you opt for the Via Ferrata Xtreme at Honister which is much more demanding (and exciting). The Classic was introduced to cater more for families and you will probably find it rather tame if you like a challenge.

Regarding the stabiliser, I would suggest that you try it without and see how you get on. You can always add one at a later date if necessary. I towed a 1000kg Swift Rapide for years without one and never had a problem. It's far more important to load the van properly and have the correct noseweight, tyre pressures etc.

Thanks Humber, that's what we were thinking also. The fell walking is building up, we're starting out on lowish fells but want to do all the Wainwrights if possible in the next few years. It's always been 3-4 times walking per year at B&B's so far because I was working, but we're hoping to do 8-10 visits once we have the van and now I've retired.

Hi, just been reading, with some interest about thoughts on the Swift basecamp. We had our 1st outing last weekend and we're over the moon with it. It was warm and incredibly well insulated against the cold north wind and because it is made out of plastic there is no Wood frame so no fear of damp issue so 'let it rain'. The cooking facilities were excellent and easy to use and I was able to throw a good meal together after our long walk. The fridge is a revelation.....what a great size for such a small van. By the way, during our walk we were able to turn the heating on remotely so the van was so warm we we got back. I could wax lyrical for hours on this little baby because it was just what we needed. Light so that it was easy to move, mod cons despite its size, well built so should stand the test of time, the large front window was great to watch the world go by and the fact that the heating and water heater can run on electric or gas is a bit special. The awning doubles the size of the van which is useful when you have 2 muddy border collies and you can convert it into another sleeping area if you wish. Love this little baby, worth every penny in my opinion if only for the fabulous design.

Thanks for posting stainsbygirl, first real owner review I've seen. The Basecamp sounds everything we're hoping for, we now have a firm delivery date of Thursday 4th May so can't wait!

Do you have a graphic wrap on yours? We went for the Target, but someone else at our dealer bought the Beach wrap.

We didn't have the choice as we were lucky enough to buy the last one of the demos in our area so we snapped it up. I haven't seen any others out but everyone at the site was queueing to look in. Very proud of him. We call him Arthur cos he's only 'arf a caravan. Lol

Stabilisers, as found on caravans, are mis-named, they only damp the magnitude of unwanted movements, not stop it.
The ATC does stabilise sways, in a powerful way.

These devices complement each other, the stabiliser will make for a more comfortable less fatiguing tow, the ATC will very likely effectively save you if things go unstable. Just like seat belts and ABS, ATC systems are not "needed", till they are.

These days with ATC being available I would always specify it, just in case any emergency swerving like action on my part requires its intervention.

Thanks for info Stainsbygirl . We are picking up our Basecamp next week . Had you had previous experience of towing a caravan , how did you find the Basecamp ? We have towed a trailer tent but never a caravan . We have a short course booked for the following week . Can you tell me who you insured with , we are looking at the caravan club. Exciting traveling ahead .

Hi HB, we went with caravan guard who were a bit cheaper than the CC and very friendly on the phone. We got caravan breakdown cover through Mayday as an extension of our car insurance with Churchill.

Hi HardyBoys, funnily enough we had a trailer tent some years ago then went on to a small campervan but found it too restricting. The basecamp is easy to tow and not too badly affected by the wind, surprisingly. We have changed the hitch to an ALKO stabilizer which is not essential but feels a bit more comfortable for us less experienced towers. Its only draw back is that as it is small you need to be careful when reversing but it's no great issue. We are insured with camping and caravan club it just happen to be a cheaper quote although I'm sure it's a matter of preference. Our 1st weekend was great. Plenty of room for two of us and our 2 dogs its a little gem. We have a number of adventures coming up including 2 using our Triumph 2500 saloon as a tow car and I have to say we are both really excited. one thing I do like is that there are no frills to get dusty or dirty and plenty of storage. The bikes fit in like a dream as well so all in all it's perfect for out needs. Have fun
