I think it's great that we are all different. Even back in the 70s we avoided bank holidays at all cost, but perhaps that was because if I worked the bank holiday I got extra money and an extra day off to take when I wanted it. I hate being stuck in traffic jams too, so I tend to try and travel when others aren't, whenever I can. Our outward holiday journeys are often Mondays or Tuesdays, and our return journeys either Thursday or Friday, depending on where we are going. We definitely avoid the M25 on Friday afternoons though!

We love bank holidays, what's not to love? Everywhere nice and lively, sites are buzzing, everyone's in a good mood. Bank holidays are THE best time to holiday in the UK. Leave home early and return late and even the traffic isn't a problem.

Plenty of life where I usually am too. Volunteering on a Heritage Railway. I'll be there all day tomorrow for our diesel gala.

Wonder what will happen after 2040, when electric cars are the only new vehicle option for caravaners (not that it will affect us)? Unless electric cars go through some fantastic technological surge, towed caravans will gradually disappear from our roads. Will people be going back to tenting and hauling their holiday gear in small, lightweight trailers? Will there be a reduction in campers that makes site availability once more a scarcity of the past?
Bertie.

There will still be plenty of petrol and diesel vehicles around in 2040, in my opinion. Those built in 2039 will be still around in 2050, and maybe even in 2060 and beyond. I run an 18 year old Volvo and still tow a caravan with it, and mine is by no means the oldest one around. Mine is a "W" reg, and I saw an "R" reg one only the other day, presumably still giving good service. It will be a problem more of concern to my children and grandchildren than to me anyway, as in 2040 I will be 91, if I am still around. I suspect the only electric vehicle I will ever drive will be a mobility scooter.
