It is of course an individual's choice. The width was never an issue. Having had a van the same dimensions as the Xplore, the additional length made it difficult to get into the garden, whereas the 30" smaller Basecamp is a joy to manoeuvre. I am now a lone female caravanner of advanced years; I use the onboard loo, even so I always book a site with showers and hook up. I managed the Basecamp alone on 4 trips off through the summer, using various outdoor shelters. The bed I make up in the BC is just one side leaving the other half as seating or I can fold the seating back and put the dog beds in. I so love the BC.

is it possible to get/use a pull out canopy , a rollup one, instead of awning?

I would guess you could have one made. we had one made for the folding camper. The awning rail, though is only on the rear, not down the sides. I use a Wigo suncanopy. Light and easy enough to thread on and there are only 3 poles.
