after 15 nights away with only the van shower we have decided it wasn't as bad as we feared and will probably use EHU only sites in future - the only thing I will suggest is use 2 full Aquarolls -changing between the 2 after the first person has showered - theres nothing worse than running out of water

That's what we do.

2 aquarols very useful! We have used no facility sites so it makes life easier, handy if water pessure is low and it takes a while to fill them.

We started using our own shower seven years ago as my wife was having chemotherapy and we were concerned about any risk of infections. She is fully recovered but we continue using our shower as it is so much easier to simply get out of bed, have a shower then get dressed, no messing about getting dressed to go across to the shower block.

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

We lived at home for about 18 months with a trug bath/shower scenario, after a) the shower short-circuited, b) OH decided to redo the bathroom . So... we became adept at the trug bath, good wash etc. It can be done.

Showering is convenient, we always shower in our van. You shower differently to hone. In a caravan shiwer on to wet you. Shower of soap on. Water on to rinse. If you leave it on all the while you are showering you will run out of hot water and filling the barrel a lot

Maybe if we had a more modern van with a large shower compartment we would be more likely to use it. Ours is definitely "last resort" unless you don't mind banged elbows, knees and head. It also might be better on a fully-serviced pitch, that we don't usually go for, with a direct water supply and drainage. Lugging water and waste-water containers around any more than essential is not my idea of relaxation, which is mainly what we go away for. We might have thought differently if we'd had a shower compartment in our caravan 40 years ago though. We were much fitter and more flexible then.

We've never used our van shower ...

It is, in no way, comparable to any campsite shower we have used either in power or flow capacity ... when campsite showers are free, why would I not use a more spacious and nicer showering experience?

Treking to and fro??? Unless you stay in your van permanently, you are forever treking to and fro ... so a shower visit is hardly onerous.

We only use the van on the continent, in summer, so weather is usually pretty good, and facilities are kept spotless on 98% of sites ... indeed, some are so luxurious, that it's a real pleasure to use them!

I could not have put that better myself, it is exactly what we feel. The only difference is that we never go outside the UK, but that doesn't make any difference. The facilities on all the sites that we have used have been just fine, even the small CSs. All the showers have been clean and spacious. Four times the size of the one in our caravan. The only time we are usually in our caravan, apart from sometimes when the weather is really foul, is overnight. That is when having an onboard toilet is handy, apart from that it never gets used, mainly because we aren't there to use it. We are always out somewhere. If we are just relaxing on the site, a stroll over to use the facilities (toilet or shower) is no hardship.
