We are the complete opposite. As we are charged extortionate prices for EHU on most sites, we use whatever we can on electric and save our gas. Fridge is mains-only, water heating is mains-only, if we need heating we use a convector heater, and we use a small electric kettle. Why use gas when you are paying for electricity anyway? It would be different if we were on a meter and therefore paying for what we used, rather than paying a fixed fee for an "electric pitch". We would then use whatever was most economical.

it costs money to go metered which makes me think most sites will simply up the the hook up charge but i could be wrong..

We stayed on a site at Weston Super Mare two years ago where we had to load money onto a card for electric usage, first time we'd come across this...the remainder at the end of our holiday was credited back to our bank account before we'd even got home...around half an hour.
This year we have stayed at a site we've been to many times before but this year they've changed from a pitch fee Inc electric to a metered bollard. We had to set up an account with MeterMacs and load money on to it then when we got to our pitch we entered the pitch number, plugged in and it quickly started working. The remainder at the end of our holiday was refunded. It did make us more careful with our usage but that's not a bad thing. Think it will become more common to stop people abusing the amount they use.

I don't like the heat, never have, and air con was a must have when I was spec'ing my van.

The same with my house when I relocated to Wiltshire in 2006, and with every car I bought since 2002.

I settled in UK as I could not stand the hot and humid weather in Hong Kong where I originated.
