Its the same with us too , we drive moddifed cars we are seen as boy/girl racers !!! Let me tell you after spending ££££ on our cars every year there is no way we would treat our cars in the same way as SOME of younger drivers do.Some dont even have insurnce on there cars so this means ours goes up to cover for these idoits who have no respect for anything or anyone.

Some camp sites dont let us stay.

if a pick up turns up on site the owner Should  talk to the driver first then they would know there not pikey surely they can tell the diffence The pick up I own has personal plate have you ever seen a  pikey van with personal plates they have ones that don’t add up to the vehicle there in My wife is disabled so it has a blue badge on it have you every seen a pikey with a blue badge why would they need them they park were they like any way I am self employed HGV driver so yes I do use it for work and pleasure I used too run a discovery and escort van before the wife got MS and had to pack up driving so I could not see the point off runing two vehicles so i had to get a vehicle which would pull a twin axle van and get a lorry wheel in it + my tools and + get the wife’s  Mobility scooter in + the wheelchair + the 3 wheel walker and the lift that get the wife in and out of the caravan and as you can see I could not get then all in to a car so that is why I brought a pick up

And I hope this makes one or two of you smile what do I do for a living I lay tarmac  so yes I have been call a pikey more then once

I've towed with a Ford Transit SWB for over a year and I've never yet been turned away from anywhere.  I've been aware that there's something of a prejudice against white vans being 'pikeys' - although it looks to me as if most 'pikeys' tow with something far nicer than I can afford!

I've taken the attitude that if I've not been to a campsite before, when I book, I mention that I tow with a Transit because I sometimes transport my partner's motorbike and do they have any objection?  There was only one campsite in Savernake Forest that was dubious but I told them that I understood their concerns completely but that they were unfounded and they were fine.

I think that, if you are aware that you may have trouble with a certain outfit (deserved or not) then it's polite to phone ahead and check the campsite's policy rather than turn up and have problems.
