I  did have a Hobby 540 last year, and I have to admit none of the British caravans I''ve owned  towed anything like it. apart from the weight factor , they tow adream. I think Hymer caravans tow likewise. I was told the German manufacturers design their caravans to be balance on the axle(s) .

I can only say I found towing one heck of a lot nicer. Insulation definitely a lot better for those early or out of season forays.

I can honestly say the only problems I had were not the hobby's fault but the UK dealer. He caused more damage fitting extras, than a pikie squad would stealing it.
Parts aren't in yet ,  was blamed time after time for not puting it right. This UK dealer won't get a penny of mine ever again, and I'm glad to say I've done him out at least 6 sales by telling folk the truth. This won't affect you caravan buyers on the mainland though.

If I had to do over again , intead of giving this rogue £14000 UK price , I'd go to Germany and buy the same model and spec for £7700, almost half price. I bet the German dealer would have no problem getting parts, as the German caravanners wouldn't stand for it.

Downside , Insurance , Caravan Club annually £596 , as someone mentioned , the Pikies will ahve it if it's not nailed down, hence the premium I suppose.

If I go back to caravanning again ( German Motorhome at present) it will be a Hymer or Hobby  , of that there is no question.

Friend do yourself a favor , do a bit of research on the net. For goodness sake the German and Dutch dealers are even advertising in UK magazines. They know too well from talking to UK customers the way our rogue traders operate. You won't get this crap from a German dealer and you'll save up to 45% on the UK Price.

I know what I would tell him!
Legally he can't move the goalposts, verbal (with a witness) or written agreement on a price constitutes a contract.
However I'd advise against buying from him under this enforcement. goodness knows it's hard to get service from caravan dealers in this country under normal circumstances. Bottom line they want your money nothing else.

Know what , go along with him, assuming you haven't given him a deposit,[or he'll mess you about] let get the van delivered to the UK and then tell him where he can park it, "where the sun doesn't shine!"

I've been there , and I detest rogue / dealers . Why not give David Elliott a call at Wellhouse Leisure.

Address: Wellhouse Leisure Ltd, Sovereign Business Park, Barnsley Road, Shepley, Huddersfield, HD8 8BL

I have no connection apart from buying a Motorhome from him. He does caravans and could probably get you what you want.
This is one UK dealer I know is straight as a die.

Happy Hunting
