You don't need to worry now either, CC site regulations state that you may have your choice of whatever pitches are available. The only time exceptions are ever made to this is if the wardens know that a van coming in will only physically fit on a particular pitch or if a van coming in is likley to damage a particular pitching area. The priorities on a CC site are different from those of the CCC CC wardens only have to consider vans, CCC wardens have to consider tent campers as well and the priorities are different for both sets of campers.

The Club operates on a first come first serve basis in the allocation of pitches, which means you are unable to pre-book a specific pitch but are able to choose from those grass/hardstanding pitches available to you on arrival at site.

It is quite normal and unexceptional for wardens to allocate pitches, particularly when the weather has not been kind to us and the grass pitches can lie wet.  As most, if not all, motorvans are front wheel drive, they can, quite literally, get stuck on wet grass because of the weight distribution on each axle.  Therefore, wardens will allocate hardstandings for them.

The Club receives many comments from motorvan members saying the opposite of what you have said and that we favour caravan owners.  The Club is a broad church within its membership and we have to try and strike the balance for all our members needs.

Hi Rizzo, my reply to your post was really intended in jest, I should have used a Smiley!!   It just shows that none of us should make assumptions!

And it wasn't your post I was taking offense at , it was those who judged us to be sad etc without knowing the circumstances. 

I wish we could have got away at weekends, it was our original intention, but we soon found that it was not going to be easy for OH to finish earlyish on a Friday, and that the places we were interested in visiting were just too far for a weekend.  And all the packing etc just felt like a lot of effort for such a short time  We did manage two half term breaks (4 days) but have otherwise stuck to 6 or 7 weeks each summer.

 Luckily OH has good annual leave, but while DD was still at school we could only go in the school holidays.  Which really meant summer as my plant growing was a January to May committment, little seedlings need a lot of TLC!

However freedom is now on the horizon, OH only has 4 days left to work, and it's only 8 days till we set off on our first retirement adventure.

Hi all, When using CC sites we have always been told to have a look around and pick a pitch, And then been recommended the pitches that may suit us best, But always left to choose. Pre-booking hardstanding pitches could be an option but would be open for abuse as with other options, EG try to book a CC pitch on a bank holiday at the beginning of the year and you find that most are full, But due to a lot of 'no-shows' that have booked but then cant\dont go and there are always spaces. This i guess would happen with hard-standing people would book them and not show up and by the time the wardens realise other arrivals would have pitched on grass and then they see a new ariival getting a hard-standing they could have had, So they then think it's favoritism etc....

Anyone want to help invent a 'hover-van and car combi we'd make a fortune...

I have encountered this on CCC sites, but never on a CC site, oh yes forgot to mention we have a Folding Camper and have always picked our pitch with the CC, but with the CCC we are told go there and these both have been in peak times.

Gordon we have a 20 year old caravan and use both the CC and CCC sites and have never had this attitude from any of the wardens on sites,in fact at Woodhall spa CCC site last week even though they had limited numbers of pitch's free we where given a choice of where we wanted to pitch and as far as old tents how are they going to know the age until you erect it

I have had it every time from the CCC it is one of the reasons that I resigned my membership. CC everytime say have a look round and choose any empty pitch. CCC warden says follow me and drops me on his choice of pitch, one even moved my hitch 6 inches because it was not on straight.

Another one that got my back up was when I offered a £10 club voucher for a nights stop that was costing £9.80 and they refused to take it because it would mess their books up. I didn't want any change I just had a voucher to get rid of. As a result I do not have a very high opinion of the CCC. In 15 years with the CC I have never once found anything that restricted my use of their sites but right from the off I got the impression that the CCC wardens ( sorry Holiday site managers ( I hate rebranding ) ) were not very helpful.

You make a good point and there is no answer to please all. In one hand the wardens dont want motorhomes, who may be off and on chewing up the grass. On the other hand, why should vans be relegated to grass. I dont believe in reserving pitches and it should be choice when you get there which seems the only fair way. We often try and get up Thurday PM to popular sites to get a nice pitch. If MH arrive and its only grass then they have to make the decision. If wardens dont want them on grass cause of wet etc. then no pitch. Just the same if vanners dont like the pitch then they can go. I certainly dont like the best friends thing which MUST exist. I sympathise with the poster and there is nothing worse than a wet awning.

As for weekenders - well all have a right to enjoy the sites. I respect older retired folk who get away for weeks - i will be one one day I hope. But weekenders are mainly families who work during the week. We love our little outings. The service and 'rights' suggested here shouldnt be different.

I have never experienced people arriving wanting my pitch as we always get out before 12, usually earlier we usually get the big stuff ready the night before like take the awning down. However if someone came and was polite I would rush up - my holiday is over and their's has started. I dont like the indignance of some posters who say they would wait and have a cuppa - unfortunately there are some folk who are like that - probably the same people who tut at children playing and think TVs should be banned after 7pm.
