, C.L. Whereby some will take anyone and when you turn up after booking weeks in advance you find it's a free for all and there are far too many vans on site.

Thats something they should be reported for. a) the agreement with the clubs is 5 vans members only, b) very importantly, thats what their planning permission stipulates. If they ignore it, not only do they break their legal status, they risk causing a bad name for other reputable ones with the local authorites, whom in some cases are not exactly caravan friendly anyway!

We found that people would book several sites for the same dates just in case one doesn't measure up to what they want.  Hence lot of empty pitches when the board registers full.  Of course, it only happens where no deposit or a very small deposit is charged.

As has been said before. the CC system doesn't allow you to book more than one site for the same date.

Of course what it does do is allow you to book multiple dates and then cancel at the last minute, and many folks do this if, for instance, the weather is going to be bad.

If they charged deposits people would be less likely to do this. If they are really against charging deposits maybe they should only allow people to have a max of 3 bookings made at any one time, or ban persistant offenders.

Fed up with the charges for CC sites. They are being upgraded and the charges are now far too high. We don't want facilities, as like many others, we have all we need in the van. A tap and and an electric point is all I want with a charge at £10 or under. We just use the CLs which are quieter and more informal. Many of us are retired and we keep the network going during the winter months and are then charged ridiculous rates in the summer so we stay at home and will continue to do so.

With the dramatic increase in fuel charges, I can see that both the clubs will have to do a rethink on their charges if they don't want empty sites.

The real value for me in joining the caravan club has been the local centres that you are able to be a part of. I am new to caravanning this year and have been on a couple of rallies at about £5 per night and you just cannot beat it. They really do cater for families and children.

There is something for everyone and you don't have to be in each others pockets if you choose not to.

The Caravan and Camping Club site at Monkton Wylde are now advertising holiday homes to buy, and have a lovely glossy brochure full of expensive vans!  They already do seasonals, and have a long waiting list too.  The owner of our site is already thinking about making even more pitches into seasonals.
