Hope no-one reading this takes it literally - if the car's max towbar weight is 75 Kgs as many are, then reducing it to 55 could give problems. Some cars are only 50 Kgs max.

7% of actual laden weight is a good one to follow providing it doesn't take it over the car's max.

The outfit towed like a dream on the 1200 miles to get here. My post on page 2 lists my weights. Several times I found I was doing 80+ without realising and with no problems. I'm going to test things out differently on the return leg just cos I want to see what effect it will have for research purposes. . Hope to be back on here by next week and without having to use my mobile phone to access the net via the campsites wi fi network. Wish I'd brought my laptop with me now.

ERMM   yes caz sorry about that..my figures are a generalised quote on a maximum 100kg towball limit which is what the posters car has ..i agree with you about 75kg limit not being a 55kg target ..i would plump for a 65kg target..but i'm sure you get the drift of my comment on the aiming of the targets on the hitch head weight ..i was just trying to be helpful by giving my considered opinion on his problem ..but  i will always listen to other peoples honest opinions too

Returned home safely with my Bailey Ranger 460/4 yesterday.

No problems with stability at any speed.

In Europe I was doing 80 ish most of the way, slightly lower in the uk but still illegal speeds.

If all mechanicals are correct, tyre condition and pressures correct, a suitable tow vehicle, and everything loaded correctly then you shouldn't have a problem with swaying.

Chaz to answer your questions on locked thread, No I am not an expert but I trust the experts that created the legal laws on speeding whilst towing more than I do you, yes I have got a licence and yes I have towed.

Oh and I couldn't give a monkeys about global warming, so burn as much fossil fuel as you want.

           what are you pulling your van with,after towing this week seem to have cracked the problem off swaying but still donnt fancy towing at 70 + on any roads,

I tow my van with either a Citren Xsara 2.0 HDI auto, or a Seat Ibiza 1.4 Tdi Reference Sport, I don't exceed speed limits here or abroad.

But you may have meant to ask Chaz?
