We've used our cadac in the rain many a time we just open the door to the awning wide and hubby stands just inside the door. We have a fry up every morning and the only thing we have to cook in the caravan is the beans which suits me because i get the inside cooking and he gets the out

Please can someone tell me why a cadac is so great and why you use one when you have an oven in the caravan? Not knocking them, just curious.

We don't have a Cadac as we like charcoal bbqs, but I can fully understand why they would be 'best buys', as our best buys are the things that mean Hubby does some cooking ... single burner stove and griddle for breakfast and the bbq or evening meal!  And my Hubby (and our friends) are also 'bbq in any weather' nutters - we have photographic proof of Hubby, my Dad and our friend barbying on 30 January 2 years ago, in the pouring rain, using a sun canopy as a rain shelter (held up by tying the guy-ropes to a tow-ball on the car, a 56lb weight and a large gas bottle, as we were on hard standing!!).

Anne - we have ovens in our 'vans and we use them almost every weekend ...  to make accompaniments for the stuff 'the boys' bbq - if we were gas bbq fans, they would probably have Cadacs.

Thanks for the replies. We only have a porch awning and we haven't used that yet. No intention of buying a full awning. Think we will stick with our charcoal bbq then.

Hi Anne,

Cooking is my hobby and I seem to spend half my life in the kitchen at home, When its summer or on holiday I love cooking outside as I get both of my loves, cooking and fresh air.

And truth be told I am to lazy to faff with charcoal, I just plug the cadac into side of the van and press ignite! My caravan oven gets enough use in the winter,

At home I have a gas BBQ and never need much of an excuse to get out there and use that despite my kitchen oven being my pride and joy (yes i am very sad!)

Good luck FUOSA, when OH was pregnant I used to buy her the Alcohol Free wine from tesco, Its not that bad either, plus I didn't feel as guilty sat there with a glass of wine while OH was there with a coke, she had fake wine in a wine glass.

Hi guys just joined as a member, so hello to you all. I would like to say that the best thing we bought for our caravan was a plastic carpet runner cut to size from our local indoor market for £2.00 a metre kept the carpet looking new and smelling fresh. Great little purchase as we have a 7 yr old girl that likes to get muddy and a 18 month old boy who likes to share his food with the floor. Another great buy was a main water kit on Ebay for a tenner used for the first time last weekend, great for lazy caravanning.

Hi Chris Freelander 54,

We used to have those in our old van, Part of the pre-requisite when we bought the new one was removable carpets, They have never been in the van as they are in the bag in the loft

Converted the Truma to dual fuel - free heat and leave it on all night,

Also like many, getting a sky dish was a good move. Also an LCD/DVD/FREEVIEW combo Tv.

rubber matting that comes in rolls.  I put it on the table when we have to eat inside and it stops the melamine plates sliding all over the place.  Kids hate it as they like the melamine plates sliding all over the place!
