£70 a night....well I suppose someone must pay it but count me out. Are the showers made of marble and with gold plated taps???
We usually stick with C&CC sites as they do a family deal price and the facilities are good.
If you want swimming pools, clubs, bars, etc. then expect to pay the price. I take the view that these facilities are usually available anyway if I want to travel to them (i.e. local swimming baths, pubs, restaurants etc.) so we prefer a quiet site with good basic facilities ... but even with the family deal price this year, it's gone up a bump. (Costing us £23.50 a night, high season, school holidays with EHU).
What some are charging during school holidays is a rip off. It's not just campsites, same can be said about B&B, hotels, foreign holidays, everything really. If it gets much worse, lots of people with children will just be priced out. Then those without kids won't be subsiding prices for those that use these places the in low/mid season.
I expect to pay more during school holidays but 4 times the low season price? (This is not uncommon).

I am just back from dropping off my wife and her friends for a girls weekend break in a static at seton sands at edinburgh, I have to pick them up tomorrow, so when i was there i had the thought that i may pick up my caravan from storage and stay the night to save the journey tomorrow and my daughter would like a night away and some quality time with her dad, well i went to the reception to ask the availability and price, 3 pitches left and it would cost £54 for the night i was told.
I did not even give her a answer, turned round and walked out
I stayed at the same site 2 weeks ago for 3 nights fri to mon it only cost £28 in total for the pitch (this is a cc site)
It may as well be the edinburgh holidays but COME ON, what ever the supply and demand and extra staff and all the rest is this is a excessive price
(defend that one)

Kids need a holiday to, you can't just not go because of the price. So do i take them out of school to get a cheap holiday?
I don't entirely agree with that. The children are off school, so they are on holiday, they don't actually NEED to go away from home to have a holiday.
You could stay at home and do days out, activities, have quality time together. I suspect it is parents who more need the holiday!
Between 1988 and 1998 we only went away, as a family , on one holiday. We could not afford to as we were building a house. As far as i can see our children have not suffered from not going away.
The fact that going away in the school holidays invariably costs more is something all of us with children have experienced. It doesn't last for ever, soon they will be all grown up and will not want to go anywhere with you.
Meantime, vote with your feet as they say, and if you think a site is too expensive, do not go there. There are plenty of alternatives.
