Picked up our van after a service last week. We checked the wheel nuts before we left the dealers. Heard too many stories. We lost a wheel a few years back and 'once bitten, twice shy'. We check them before every journey now.

Hi, we went to pick a mate up from manchester airport yesterday and as we got on the M67 we passed a police car with lights flashing at the road side just in front was a car towing a very nice looking speed boat well it was nice before the wheel came off the trailer and took away part of the back end... it looked a bit too bad to repair so proberbly will be written off. The family were stood a bit further along the hard shoulder looking very fed up but unharmed. must remeber to check ours before we leave next week. take care. Bill

i think its fair to say it doesnt happen often . make it a check on your check list. do the car/van as well .wouldnt like it to happen to anybody. be safe ,be sure. only takes a few minutes.

It happens more with boats, if you put the trailer in the water and then don't bother to clean and grease the wheel bearings.  Ideally should be done every trip, but you can get away with more if you put plenty grease in and stick to fresh water, not salt.
