I towed our caravan for years as my then husband could not drive. The first time I was a nervous wreck as I was frightened I might have to reverse.I took a caravan towing course as soon as I could and after that it was a doddle.I used to enjoy showing off my reversing skills when I arrived at a pitch. On the peg first time more often than not.(Big head!!!) The more you tow the easier it gets.

This is so true, they should be glad their wives want to be able to tow and manovre the van (after all none of us know what is round the corner and one day they might need their wives to feel confidant enough to tow) so they should be helpful rather than making their wives feel a nervous wreak.

When I first read the title of this post I thought. WOW how sexist, of course women can tow blah blah blah. Then I engaged brain, which I know is difficult LOL. and thought, there is no way I would tow a van, I refuse point blank to drive our motorhome. So all I can say, is go for it and well done for doing a cc course.

All the best.

i've been towing our caravan for about 13 years if I didn't we wouldn't use it as OH is self employed and can't always get away although when he comes I'd rather he waits a few days for me to get the van sorted and for the kids to settle before coming

I don't tow yet - can't even drive! - but I'm working on it.

When me and OH split up three months ago (he wanted it, not me) we had only had the caravan 12 months. We had put so much work into refurbishing it when we got it and we'd only used it four weekends - I really love that little 'van so I wasn't ready to give it up after so short a time, but unless I take action I'll never go anywhere in it again. I'm now taking driving lessons, and once I've passed my test I'll clock up some driving miles and a bit of experience then book on a caravan towing course.

I must admit that the whole concept of driving lessons, theory and practical tests, driving my own (large) vehicle and eventually towing a 'van is a bit daunting, but reading through the posts on here is giving me the courage to see this through. So hopefully in the not-too-distant future there will be another lady tower on UKCS!

Learning about passing your test is only the start of learning to drive. When I lived in yorkshire we didnt have motorways close by so didnt do driving on the motorway till we moved down here.At 1st it was very scary but it doesnt bother me at all now. But if  I didnt drive would be stuck indoors all the time,Driving as given me independence that my disablty as taken away.I have freinds who have learnt to drive spent ££££ and dont even drive the car sits on the drive and they use buses to me thats a waste of money.Good luck Tigermouse im sure you will love driving.

You go for it Tigermouse, grab your freedom and independance. Its well worth it.I think my one piece of advice to you would be to try and have lessons in a medium sized car rather than one of these 'dinky toys' that a lot of instructors use, because then moving to a decent tow vehicle will not be so daunting as it will not seem as if its a monster (size wise) that you are having to drive.

Big Al ......Shame on you

after all you had to start sometime and were probably more dangerous than a lady driver when first let loose on the roads.(we all know what these i know it all men/boy racer types are like)
and personnally i am amazed at the amount of male drivers that think they are so good but when push comes to shove they cant reverse an outfit for toffee and so they have a Motormover in the hopes that folk wont realise.
