i pour the blue in the main hole in the middle rather than the tube bit.
I was always told not to do this. If the blue comes in contact with the seal then it causes the seal to perish. And we have now turned full circle. A leaky loo might necessitate the use of gloves!
Thgis can be dangerous for anyone sitting down whether a female or male. But especially female. When we had a stardard elsan we had a proper toilet seatr on top but Bob had put a little too much blue in and not enough water and when I sat dwon as women do always the chemicals entered inside the private parts and I burnt not with the actual touch of the chemical but its fumes. I had burning sensations for months and all manner of creams etc to try to rid it and make it less sore & more gentler to actually be able to go to urninate. But it was burning every time I passed even the smallest amount of urine. Fortuanately for me I eventually healed inside my birth channel. But it has never ever been repeated and we got rid of the elsan immediately so it never would happen again or go worse damage and be irreparable for life.
So it really is a no no to do those chemicals are so very strong and you are allowing them to enter inside you if your not careful and do it the right way. It may not be the man that has trouble below bit the woman could well get cystitis. Be careful out there.

Hi David by the term 'funnel' I assume you mean the emptying pipe on the holding tank of the loo and the screw cap on this you use as a measure. In all these years of caravanning I have never known this was a measure. I just pour blue stuff straight into the pipe. After 30 odd years of caravanning I know roughly how much blue I need. If I use a little too much, well so what no problem.
Sorry about not replying sooner, Robin. Completely forgot about this thread.
Yes, sorry, I should have called it the emptying pipe - this is what I meant.
I can confirm that the yellow screw cap that fits on the end of the 'emptying pipe' has an integated measuring cup.

right you get the wife to put on a fresh pair of gloves and she pulls off the gloves you are wearing and disposes of them in an incinerator. Wash your hands and go get a beer. Get one of the kids to put on gloves and remove mothers and dispose of them..................

Hi David I can imagine that could be a bit messy with chemicals when you screw the cap back on.
Yep, this was exactly the point I was trying to make further on up the thread, One reason for moving over to the Elsan Blue Bags. Couldn't get any at the NEC last week so I bought some 'Quick-Tabs' to use - a round tablet in form to chuck down the pan. No measuring, no spillage. They feel a bit heavier than the Blue Bags, but I'll give them a go and report back after half term.
Beanpark Bob must have put an awfull lot in the loo for it to affect you that way.I agree about what you say about loo chemical because i too put that just wee bit extra in at the start of the year and the fumes were bad,i had to empty the cassete and start again.I think its a must to wear gloves to empty the loo dosent matter how bad they look..

We used the elsan blue bags but did not find them very good for our porta potti. It is bigger than the usual caravan one so maybe it would mean using 2 instead of one. But they did not take the smell away for very long so were only good for a smaller toilet maybe???? Any thoughts on this. As we found this a problem so was emptying more often than we used to do using the liquid form.

Hi Chrissie. We found them just as good as the liquid when we tried them in the summer. We do empty our loo on average once every couple of days, so I guess we better no leave it any longer. We'll see how the tablets go.
