I have only seen one caravan in bits at the side of the road. A lot of years ago.

Doesn't matter what they are towing or towing with - if they are speeding they are speeding - idiots drive all types of cars

Only time i have an issue with certain types of 4x4 drivers is those who ramp up on te pavement outside schools and those who think they can drive faster than anyone else in snow - (since when does 4x4 traction help you stop or steer - winter tyres do - 4x4 doesn't?)   ;)

 can see where you were coming from though Peterws. I have seen three caravans overturn on the motor way. All three were towed by Land Rover Discoveries and were fairly new caravans with stabilisers. While it would be wrong to tar all 4x4 drivers with the same brush, there are a few out there that think they are invincible because they have a 4x4. Raising the speed limit will just allow them to have their accident a little earlier.

Again its being a bit general DaveCoaches, 'fairly new vans with stabilisers' , I would be confident saying that they may have had stabilisers, but were they equipped with the BPW IDC system ot the Alko Equivalent, if you read the blurb on these systems, I would guess the vans were not euippped with these systems which are now being fitted as standard to many new vans.  Also the vans you saw overturn on the motorway, the accidents could have been caused by many other problems, i.e. incorrect unloading causing handling problems, noseweight or blowout etc. I dont think being towed by Land Rover Discoveries had anything to do with it, in fact they are one of the best towcars on the market!

Wow.... there is sure some anti 4x4 feeling out there... I live quite close to two schools Sunshinetours and I would say generally those who ramp up on pavements, from what I see  in the mornings is not just the 4x4's but any type of car driven by an inconsiderate drivers.

Just to correct your second point, I drive a 4WD Audi equipped with Quattro drive and yes that does help you steer in snow as it has an intelligent drive system, which puts power to the wheels that have traction as needed. I believe there are other makes out there with similar type systems.

Even with this system no sensible person would drive fast on snow, however I have seen many non 4x4 cars think they can drive fast on snow....they just cant stop!!!

One last point when there is heavy snow, how many 4WD's do you see off the road in hedgrows and ditches as opposed to two wheel drive cars?

I feel I have to defend 4x4's as I have one use it for towing and personal solo driving.  I also drive about 30K a year in my company vehicle which is a Passat CC Coupe, a lovely car but I would rather drive the 4WD any time.
