Last year on our former seasonal pitch we paid £1600 for March to January, and electricity was surprisingly expensive (£200 for the year). The vans were close together and the shower block quite old

This year we are paying £2300 on a new site, all inclusive, immaculate facilities and very spacious.

You get what you pay for, like so many things in life.

What area, (or the site itself if you are willing to divulge) is this?

Edit - it's OK.. I've worked it out :-)

Most in South Devon are now £2000 upwards. Quite a few closed and more and more are going to statics and away from tourers. I know most of them are sitting on licences for 100% statics.....

4 closed at the end of one season alone several years back, great shame.

Snowy. I think you are right.seems to me that (some)site owners are preferring statics to seasonal tourers. Its a shame as some folk like me don't want to be in a static. I also notice that a lot of seasonal tourer owners just don't look after the caravan or pitch, dirty caravans, stuff everywhere and grass not looked after.
I really like my van and pitch and like to keep them clean and tidy.

I would have thought a campsite with people coming and going and pitches next to you are statistically a lower risk.

Anyway we found an insurer that gave us a lower premium on a seasonal pitch as they took into consideration that the van won't be towed. I would have thought towing and being on the road is quite a risk. So for us it was cheaper.

Can you tell me what insurer you use.
PS I pay £870 plus elec for the full year. The site is closed during Feb only. It's a lovely little site just outside Girvan in Ayrshire Scotland goes by the name of Queensland Holiday park. There is now a waiting list for seasonal pitches but the owners are extending the park.

Here is the link

Life sure insurance

Edited to add a ps...I think from memory that i got a fairly good quote but finalised by phone and it was then they mentioned the no towing option that bought my premium down.

The issue is that statics pretty much run themselves. With tourers, you have to book them in, make sure they are sited right and deal with the hassles. If it rains, they cancel (some do, before the pedants get going), and if like last year it rains a lot, that is a big hit on your turnover.

Turn it over to statics and you have to buy them at a profit to the owner, pay annual fees etc etc and most, when you sell, pay a percentage again. So it is a win win for the site owner with guaranteed income regardless of weather.

That is, from what I can gather, their rationale down in the West Country.

We are seasonal on a mixed site with static's and log cabins. There is a high demand for seasonal pitches which the site limited to 30 out of the 100. The waiting list was so big they released some of the touring pitches as they were never full. I think there is about 65 seasonals now with more joining everytime we go. As stated in the above post they were getting alot of cancellations due to weather at least with the seasonals the site has guaranteed income. We love it, the site is strict on keeping your pitch an van looking good and we all take pride in our pitches, i know some sites dont an we looked at some which were like a caravan graveyard!

I have emailed a lot of sites this week and they range from 700 to over 2000 for 2014. We have just viewed the cheapest qoute we got and we love it. Its our first year at doing this so we didn't want to spend a fortune. Ours is £685 for the season and £60 for storage near aberaron, wales.
