Hi All
Wish I had read this before lashing out for my Elddis Affinity 540 from Glossop Caravans feel like throwing myself of a bridge now
New to caravaning and easily swayed by my better half she fell in love with it.
We have not collected it yet getting married next week and then honeymoon so was wondering what to check when I do pick it up from the dealers who do seem very helpful but as they have just taken 20g's from me they would be.
Excellent site and picked up some really good tips browsing through posts really scared about the apparant total ineffectivness of hitchlocks and wheel clamps though
Both in our mid 50's kids off our hands our time so looking forward to it.
Any advice would be gratefully received as this our first one.
Look forward to hearing from you and thank you in advance.
Sam

We have been thinking about downsizing (both car and van) and was going to look at an Affinity 574 which we could pull with a mid size SUV and still have alde heating etc rather than the 3 ltr lump we have now So the question is have(is) the 2014/15 range better? have all the early problems been sorted?

We have owned an Elddis Avante 540 (2013) since December 2012, the van was a complete waste of money, numerous faults that should not be occurring on a new product, many listed earlier on this thread. Having spent 3 days away recently without the water system working, even with the help of 2 other people, we could not get it to work, we came to the decision that we had lost all confidence in the make and model and the van had to be changed. Reading on the CCC website, Elddis are now switching to the Alko chassis for the 2015 models, could this be anything to do with cracked panels and de-laminating floors caused by the current chassis and bonding system?

Is there a tipping point where you can reject the van as not fit for purpose?

Due to the amount of faults with the van we tried to give it back before it's 1st service last December, we were told that the van would be repaired under warranty. I complained vigorously and stated that the van was not acceptable and you would not expect a car to have so many faults when bought from new, the dealers response was you cannot compare a caravan to a car, a better comparison is to a new house which will always have small issues etc. when I have a fault on cars I have owned I contact the dealer and the car goes in for repair, with a caravan you have to take it back to the dealer, (almost 100 mile round trip in my case) they then assess the fault and submit a warranty claim, you wait an unknown amount of time before returning to the dealer to have the fault finally repaired.
