Hello I have just read about the problems you are having with your caravan you brought from Glossops, just wondered how you are getting on with things?, as we to have brought from them about the same time as you we have a 2013 Elddis crusader diamond jubilee, we have big problems with a large catchment area of water when it Rains, we made a complaint about this very shortly after purchasing it, also to Elddis themselves the response from both party's is quite frankly a joke, from Glossops none, from Elddis well a trip back up to the caravan show at Birmingham to face them and complain about the way we have been treated, got a small repaire to the roof which made matters even worse, we have exchanged emails on several occasion, but to no avail, they have now told me to put the caravan with the nose down, and that will help with the water to run of the roof and to take the matter up with Glossops Caravans, how do you take the matter up with people that ignore the problems.

so you are happy the thread be kept alive even though the OP has long vanished and may well have solved his problems with the dealer in an amicable way..

If its not fit for purpose you are entitled to a full refund. The dealer wont want that for obvious reasons but you can demand it.Sounds like a pile of crap to me.And of course, inform whatchdog as i did about protec covers.

It seems that you now have to follow the legal route by writing to Glossop about your issues. Bullet point the issues and send it registered mail so that you have a paper trail.
Give them 14 days to reply before sending a Letter of Action. At the same time notify Trading Standards that Glossops are ignoring the Sale of Goods Act. Forget the manufacturer as it is not their problem and your contract is with Glossop.
Only do the above if you are going to follow it through. If they are ignoring SOGA then you stand a good chance of winning and getting back all your fees. Don't forget that you can call the manufacturer as a witness however the witness may not want to be in court as it could be embarrassing and may help your case get resolved quickly. Phil can also give you a lot of good advice.

I wish I had joined this forum prior to my purchase of a brand new Elddis 530 Xplore .This is with their flagship Solid construction (not). I bo6ght from the NEC in October 2013 so had to wait till March 2014 for delivery. This van was my retirement present and we planned to collect it on our wedding anniversary and spend 3 days away trying it out. The collection was a farse butters I wont go into that the standard of preperation of the van was shoddy, glue stuck all over the windows from numerous stickers. On arrival at Burrs Country Park we set up and turned on the heating system lookng forward to trying the new Whale blown air super system.Nothing happened just a red system fault light.Hours spent reading manual and following reset instruction s , nothing.Woke up next morning after cold nights sleep to find side window completely fogged up it was delaminated. Started to cook breakfast and a piece fell off the cooker, nothing in the fridge freezer compartment was frozen the freezer compartment was not working this is why we wete woken 4 times in the night with the fridge beeping telling us there was a fault.Since March 2014 the van has been returned 4 times, 27 unanswered phone calls and e-mails to Glossop Caravans to get some action Elddis just referred me back to Glossop. I FOUND WATER IN THREE OF THE REAR LIGHTS which are sealed units, ongoing problem with loud squeeling when braking twice in workshop still not resolved, three times back for heating system, now seems to be resolved, creaking floor still not resolved, rear steady damaged still not resolved, dining table leg fell off still not fixed, veneer peeling off cupboard doors 5 weeks waiting for parts still not resolved, cupboard door securing baton split in 6 places awaiting part.Van seems insecure on chassis it rocks from side to side even with legs secured with slightest movements from occupants. Fridge now fixed new window fitted , shower cubicle not sealed still to be done.Elddis have now agreed to let me use another authorised workshop.I am not confident the faults will be resolved and I am totally dissatisfied with the responses of Elddis in the initial stages but more so with Glossop Caravans. I wont go into how they lost my van for 11 days at their workshops and then deliverd it back to me at the wrong address. In the in the 5 months we have owned the van it has been unusable for 6 weeks we have cancelled 2 holidays and never had a trouble free trip away where something has failed to work. The van is now booked in for an independent assessment nxt week , so I will keep you updated as to the findings.

Was it purchased under a finance agreement ? If so let the company know about your problems.

If not financed, get some legal advice, trading standards etc and reject as not fit for purpose.

I have friend in trading standards according to them as no one has refused to rectify many of the faults they are not breaching the sales of goods act.Iwill know better where I stand in terms of not fit for purpose after I have had an iindependent report. My main concern is around the lack of customer care, there seems to be a total lack of concern over what the customer is going through having spent thousands on your van. When I spoke to Elddis last week they told me they had only been billed for 90 minutes warrenty work on my van by Glossop Cravans , this indicates theyhave either not carried out the warrenty work I was led to believe was completed or their workshop are loosing them thousands in not claiming back for the warrenty work they are carrying out.If thats the case then theywont be trading for much longer if my van is an example of their workmanship.I for one will never buy another Elddis nor ever deal with Glossop caravans again.

We too have had a couple of known problems with our Elddis Avante - thankfully our dealer so far have been very honest about the fact that these issues are known to Elddis and first item has been resolved seemingly to a very high standard with repair being undertaken on my drive and the other we are just waiting to hear from dealer that Elddis have authorised the work/fix which as it's another known issue should be or better had be just a procedure and getting it booked in.

We were very fussy about dealership when we bought and grilled them about their after sales at point of sale and checked customer satisfaction reviews prior to purchase because they are the middle man what and how they communicate to the manufacturer affects everything. Our dealer has challenged us a couple of times but so far always come through after a determined conversation, but I wouldn't expect any dealer to be a pushover.

Hi all. So sincerely sorry not to have posted for quite some time. Life extremely busy and have been moving on wanting to forget the nightmares experienced.

So, an update following the issues I experienced:

BELIEVE you do have rights, and you can stand up to Glossop. The Sales of Goods Act offers considerable protection to consumers.

Having fought with Glossop with Legal Letters we eventually won and returned the van for a full refund. The refund included all extra items fitted and purchased from Glossop.

An extremely helpful gentleman (he knows who he is!!) helped draft a couple of legal letters which resulted in no other option than for Glossop to back down and refund us.

In essense (don't quote me) if you buy new goods, they should be as new, of durable quality, and free from faults. If you have problems, reject the goods early, don't use them, and tell the dealer you have rejected them. If that fails, consider letting them repair them. This shouldn't cause you considerable inconvenience though, and the dealer should be able to explain exactly what work will be done, how, and prove that they have the necessary skills to repair so that the goods are again as new, of durable quality.

I urge you all with problems to Google the SOGA and study your rights, understand the law!! If necessary, employ a solicitor, you can and will win!

Don't despair guys, keep up the fight. You pay hard earned money for goods that are in good order as expected, don't accept faulty goods.

So what now?? We ordered an Eternity IB4, company went Bankrupt. After initially losing £2500 deposit paid on debit card, we very fortunately got the money back following a lengthy VISA chargeback claim.

Having considered what we wanted, we decided that we wouldn't under any circumstances deal with Glossop Caravans again, but the Schooner offered everything we wanted.

We took a chance and bought a new 2014 Buccaneer Schooner from Pearman Briggs in Cheltenham. It has been an excellent experience dealing with Pearman. They are a small more intimate dealership, the van has overall been much much better, and offered everything we have ever wanted and more.

After consideration my main issues were with Glossop, had they dealt with things correctly, Eldiss wouldn't have deserved such scrutiny. Yes Eldiss do have issues with quality control that needs addressing, but Eldiss can be a decent brand if only they would take more time and effort on construction and quality control. With a decent dealer (Pearman Briggs) I'd say you'll be ok.

Hope this helps, happy vanning all!!

HI Irmscher100
Glad to hear your perseverance has paid off.Just an update for anyone following this thread.I have now contacted Elddis and informed them I no longer have confidence that Glossop caravans are carrying out the repair work and their communication is appalling. Elddis checked on their system and told me Glossop caravans have only claimed for one hour thirty minutes work on my warrenty for repairs to the van. Funny as they have had the van back four times so they are either very lapse with their claims to Elddis or they are just not doing anything when he van is returned?Anyway Elddis have now agreed for a free assessment to be carried out by a garage 9 miles from my home .I will be taking the van in this Friday . Iwill then have to wait for Elddis to approve any repair work. The parts needed to rectify some of the faults were ordered by Glossop 6 weeks ago they were to contact me when they had received them .I know they were despatched by Elddis a week ago but no word from Glossop yet.

Please do not let this situation go on and on. If you do not get full satisfaction after this Friday then insist they take the van back at Glossop and refund the full amount paid.
The caravan is not fit for the purpose it was sold.
You are in the right. We persisted at another dealers and after 12 months the van was taken back and replaced.
If you have legal cover on your house insurance then now is the time to use it.

The saga goes on.Rang Glossop about the parts they said they had them and the work should be carried out by them as they said that by having the parts delivered to them I was obligated undrr the warrenty to them do the work.I disagreed with them pointing out I had the right under the warrenty to use any approved workshop. After numerous phone calls between Glossop and Elddis , Elddiss told Glossop to release the parts to me. I drove to their workshops eager to get the parts and have the work competed by the independent garage where I had now taken my van fof the assessment.I artived at Glossop only to find one of the parts was the wrong one another part was not there. The good news was the garage I amhaving the work done by found the squeeling noise problem allmost iimmediately , it was not the brakes it was the spare wheel carrier apparently a commen fault .J6st hope now the creaking floor and apparent stability of the van when the legs are down is as simple a fix.

Van was collected from garage Tuesday we were looking for a squeeling free drive to Linclolnshire for a 5 day break.Picked van up just before garage closed drove to the end of street , guess what , yes squeeling just as loud so towed away on holiday accompanied by squeeling everytime I braked.Arrived at campsite set up grilled pork chops for tea errrr no the grill packed up.So thats every applience in van has now had a problem Next day phone call to Elddis they asked me to submit list of my out of pocket expenses and have agreed to send a technician to my caravan from their factory during week of NECcaravan show to carry out assessment. So bit longer with creaking floor , squeeling wheels, and half the appliences working.

hi, just joined this website and so glad I spotted this.
Having had numerous bad experiences with dealers, called at Glossop and thought they were quite helpful (suppose people always are when they are after your money) and thought I would give them a visit when next caravan change came up. Definitely changed my mind now and will stick to taking my chances with private purchases. I won't bore you with my previous bad experiences with different makes of caravan, but all I can say is that I wish the Japanese made caravans!
