I camped for years with mates and then with family, I found you start out with a couple of bits and pieces and before you know it you need a pickfords lorry to get your stuff there as the family grows. We borrowed a caravan to take the kids to Silverstone a couple of years ago and found it great. The following summer when taking our massive, expensive outwell tent down my hand went straight through the roof. It was getting on a bit and we'd used it loads,but still to replace it was not cheap.
We were toying with the idea of a folding camper but in the end opted for a caravan. We have to pay for storage which is £200 a year and £120 to service it and £80 for insurance so yes it is a bit more expensive but it's the best thing we've ever bought. We should of bought one earlier.
Yes there's pro's and cons but the pro's definitely outweigh the cons.
Comfy warm beds
Fridge and cooker/oven/microwave
Heating (my Mrs is like a tropical plant )
It's quieter
Your stuff stays in there so no packing/unpacking
Toilet for the middle of the night
Hot and cold running water
Kettle on in 10minutes
These are just a few of the advantages we have found since owning a caravan , in fact we've enjoyed it so much after a year we upgraded to a twin axel van. I'll never go back to a tent and neither would my wife or kids
