In 23 years technology will be different.
Governments can be replaced, any policies that will be too unpopular will cause a rethink or u turn for the self-serving politicians!
Remember poll tax?
Motorists have votes as do workers whose jobs could be threatened, not forgetting the clout of the motor and oil industries!

bessie500.. the only thing that is changing with electric cars is the growing availability of super high power charging units..
the basic battery technology is still the same.. it needs a whole new battery (storage) technology to produce something that will store the same energy as a tank full of petrol..
there is no real evidence that technology will provide an answer to our mobility problems except maybe a blind belief held by some that it will..
currently it takes me about five minutes to fill up my fuel tank.. it takes hours to fill up an electric fuel tank.. overnight filling up with one charge per day.. mass filling up on the move.. nah i cant see it.. he he..
The ban doesn't come in until 2040, by then I'll be dead, so I'm not going to worry about it. By 2040 electric vehicles will have made huge advances and may be better for towing than today's vehicles. Due to the weight of batteries you may be able to tow heavier vans with smaller cars.

only time will tell Trog, Volvo are the 1st car manufacture to announce that they will not be making any diesel or straight petrol cars anymore from 2019, only electric and hybrids,
When you consider how many cars they’ve supplied the caravan fraternity over the years, I’d be pretty certain they will have done their homework before making that decision.
Give it 10 years I reckon electric cars will be more common than you think probably outselling diesel by then
I have read the domestic Tesla charge point is 32amp, so if you have your Tesla on charge at home can you still use an electric shower or electric fan oven?
What if every 4th property has an EV on charge in the evening and night, will that effect the domestic supply to all properties?
