a) excess speed or
b) side winds or
c) passing HGVs
then the best bet is those ruts in lane one.
I assume that the spacing between your van's wheels is not the same as the HGVs that created the ruts.
Moving over into the middle lane for a while (traffic permitting) should prove or disprove the idea.
Hi l have been on this motorway to many times to remember and ok previous vans l have had just the odd twitch nothing to worry about. With the van we have now it seems to do it more. you can actual see the ruts in the nearside lane on the M56.

Hi Tony
Do not let this dent your confidence one bit. I agree it will be down to weight distribution and/or noseweight. With our Rexton we never have a problem except it hates towing behind car transporters.
Totally agree. I get passed car transporters as soon as I can or drop well back.

We got a Touareg in July. We tow a 1900kg SA caravan so far we have been very impressed with it. Not sure we have towed on the M56 with it yet. We normally avoid the m56/m6 and across country because on a Friday night the m6 particularly often resembles a car park.
Update
Well towed our lunar van to the dealership yesterday (Saturday) to have it checked out and a service. With changing our SUV from Kia Sorento to the VW Touareg and towing the caravan for the first time, bearing in mind the van completely empty. Took the same route M56 and M6
to Leisure Sales, it went like a dream towing even with HGV's passing. l even took my hands off steering wheel car did not veer off course it was straight as a die not like my Sorento which would veer to the left. So l have come to the conclusion that it was my old car that was at fault, Leisure Sales service dept said they would checked the ATC computer on the van if the is any fault with it. When we first started caravanning in the 80's l used a old small teddy bear hanging in the van so l could see it through rear view mirror which gave a indication how the van was being towed, so l try it again with the Lunar it swayed gentling even with lorries and vans passing even at 60 mph.
So hopefully l have solved the problem (touch wood)
Thanks again for all the advice
Tony

Final update
Well we went to collect our caravan last Saturday 1/12/18
after its 1st service no problems, they did replace the friction pads on the AL-Ko hitch and no issues with ATC.
Hitched the van to car and back home to the Wirral, same route M6, then M56 no problem, it was a dream towing the van.. My conclusion l think was my previous car Kia Sorento 2.5, l remember when l approached Leisure Sales about the problem we were having towing, one the staff said it could be your car not compatible with the caravan, now with a VW Touareg we are looking forward to be back touring next year.
Wishing Everyone a Happy Christmas and a Great New Year

New van I assume from your profile, 1st service and the friction pads needed changing, you must do a heck of a lot of towing.

Yes brand new Lunar only use it 4 times this year, mileage completed this year about 250/300 miles. The reason we have only had 4 trips, well 2 reasons, is our son was married in Cuba earlier this year, and our daughter married in August this year in Malta. As for the friction pads worn l asked about what caused this to happen and service dept told me that l could have had a contaminated tow ball, and it does not fall into the warranty classed as wear and tear. Put a brand new AL-KO tow ball onto tow bar.
With 2018 being a hectic and expensive year, we are planning our trips for next year with our Lunar, apart from when the wife is off to Bulgaria with some of her friends for a week, l will have a week by myself with the van, no dogs (we have 2) either in the Brecon Beacons or Cumbria so l can do some astrophotography and night photography can't wait.

We had a similar problem with our twin axle and was given all the advice, it's how you've loaded it, you're driving too fast and was almost at the point of returning to a single until we tried one last thing that rectified the problem!!!! We had all four wheels balanced - the best £20 ever spent, sorted and tows like a dream :-)
I might be going out on a limb here, and knowing you're a lorry driver I find this unlikely, but doing a little maths I don't see how you could be within the weight limit of the van. From what you said, your van has a nose weight of 125kg full and 77kg empty. That's roughly 50kgs difference. Bearing in mind that most of the weight is in the middle of your van, having little effect on nose weight, that suggests you've got a few hundred kgs loaded on the van. If this is true it'll be putting both the van and the car. Hope I don't insult you with this, just trying to get my head around the figures you've mentioned.
have you checked your stabiliser pads, sometimes dealers move vans around and if they have any grease on there tow ball it can transfer to the pads in the stabiliser, if it does it will not grip your tow ball and your van will snake, i had this and had to have my pads changed.
Lots of reply’s .
My husband doesn’t drive anymore . So I do all the towing and driving .
We had this with a bailey a few years ago . It was terrible I was driving in the Netherlands and couldn’t go above 50mph . It was quite scary . We looked into everything lots of people said it was my car .a 2L 2.2 mondeo TDCI . Never had any problems before .
We then used to put everything in the car only let gas bottle s in van .
Baileys then removed their gas bottle location and no longer had a front locker . Yet we were never informed of this being a problem . The van was a Rimini with side single beds .
We have 2 years ago down sized to a two berth swift conqueror and have no problems at all .
I love my caravan and will only give up when I have to.
