Off to the 'Love Touring Festival' tomorrow in Edinburgh, maybe even see a good deal at the event.

Anyone visit these types of events and do they normally do deals?

Just another question on the Caravans and what to buy below

Does it make a difference having a motor mover on all wheels with a twin axle and any advantages, as some I have seen have 4 moers and some just with 2?

Is there any better reasons buyng a single axle over a twin, do all caravans with single/double have the tyre protection (TYRON Safety Bands)?

AWD on a twin is almost essential. We had single initially on our twin, but after just one trip to France we switched to AWD.

We had Tyrons on our first single axle caravan, but when we switched to the twin, we never bothered as did not see any point having them fitted. However we also bought a Tyre Monitoring Pressure System from Tyrepal and this I would recommend whether buying a single or twin axle caravan.

AWD are better but remember the extra weight that comes off your payload.

Wow that is very cheap. Our Truma aircon cost us £1750 and the Powertouch AWD auto engage motor mover another £2000 and this was back in 2018! I would expect prices have increased since.

Depending on the brand of air con and brand of AWD motor mover, the dealer may be offering an incentive to buy from them. Our Truma air con and also the Powertouch motor mover both had 5 year warranties.

A word of caution about TYRON bands, nothing wrong with them in themselves AFAIK and they do their job well enough. My van came fitted with them (bought s/h, but only 18 months old, so assume fitted when van was new in 2016), BUT when I wanted to replace the tyres last year (age, rather than worn out), I couldn't find a tyre fitter that would touch them - so no hope of new tyres!

'Some' Kwikfit mobile fitters will deal with them (but the depots won't!), but mobile service not available in all areas (and not where I could use them!), also at an extra charge of £10/wheel! None of the big chains, nor any of the independent fitters I contacted would touch them, that was 20 or so dealers in the burbs of London and Hertfordshire I spoke to!

Ended up removing them myself (bit of a PITA process, that involves breaking the tyre bead by DIY methods, to get access), so that I could get ANY new tyres fitted! But actually enabled me to pick the tyres I wanted at the price I wanted and at the fitters I wanted. NOT having the bands fitted saved me around £50 on 2 tyres IF I'd been able to use Kwikfit mobile, AND I got the premium tyre brand/type I really wanted (which Kwikfit didn't do - only budget choice!)! When I took the wheels into the fitter, as soon as they spotted they were caravan wheels, their first comment was "they don't have 'bands' fitted do they!".

Oh yes, the bands DID NOT get refitted with the new tyres! I can't imagine the trouble you'd be in somewhere remote with a puncture when the only tyre fitter available can't/won't deal with them!

I purchased a Tyrepal tyre pressure monitoring system to enable me to keep an eye on tyres during towing, so hopefully NEVER a chance of tyres deflating to point where they would risk coming off the rims and TYRON bands would come into play! Most of the cost of the Tyrepal system was paid for by the savings I'd made on purchasing new tyres WITHOUT Tyron bands fitted! IMHO, a TPMS is a better investment than Tyron bands, when the practicalities are taken into account.

Well that was interesting, presumed there would be far more caravans and dealers trying to sell their caravans.

Spoke to one dealer regarding the Sprite Major 6TD and really wasnt helpful, saying this is the demonstrator model and they only had one left brand new. We mentioned about fitting a solar panel and said that would cost about 700 depending on what one we go for. Then we asked several times what extras could they offer, trying to hint at them throwing in a water carrier, waste carrier etc just anything to hook us in for a sale. Nothing!!! She said all things we are requesting would be factory fitted and they couldnt help. She was also pushing the motor movers worth bla bla bla which are offered by many for free anyway. Also said about the Alarm and she told us a lot of people complain about them going off.

I think the best thing for us to to wait for the 2024 models and buy one which has all extras we want.

Can anyone advise when the new Swift 2024 models are usually released to public? Also our way of thinking, is by next year we will have saved up more money which means less on loan. Also gives us more time to dig a bit into what we really want, and ask more questions on here ;) haha

I was reading this thread earlier today and was going to suggest that you delay your purchase until next year. This would be to allow you to perhaps pick up an end of season bargain and/or allow you more time to digest and decide on all the options available ie what you really want.

Remember a lot of the "odds and sods" (water containers/awnings/gas bottles/electric cable etc can be picked up 2nd hand.

Yes I think this is the best idea, and it looks like we are going to buy brand new mainly for the warranty as we are first time buyers. Once we are confident enough to know about everything, we will buy 2nd hand.

When do you think the up and coming 2024 models are previewed, and magazines get their hands on them to review?

I was a bit dubious about Tyrepal (some have trouble linking the sensors) but it works really well.

If you are buying lots of kit and are a member of the Caravan Club, make sure you check their offers page (you get 20% off Tyrepal). https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/membership/member-offers/

As far as I am aware air cons are not factory fitted. If a caravan does nto come with a solar panel fitted as standard, it will not be factory fitted. Again as per the air con it is fitted by the dealer.

Yes she said they would charge 700 for the Solar panel and there was a few to consider as per roof measurements.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with the ALKO ATC, the lady was trying to put us off this saying it works against you and can at times be annoying.

Is it sort of like lane guidance on new cars when you try changing lane without indicating, when the caravan decides to move one way the ATC kicks in and pushes it back?

Thanks to everyone by the way who are replying, it is much appreciated and extremely helpful. As first time buyers we are so novice at this :)

We have never had a problem with the ALKO ATC in the almost 7yrs we have had it, it has worked on a few occasions when getting unbalanced around
roundabouts usually because of rubbish road surface or dodgy camber, last time ours kicked was when we hit a big pothole on the M4 (unavoidable) and it was that bad it broke the mirror on the vanity unit.
If you drive correctly it should only happen at times like that. I have no idea what that woman was on about obviously you are supposed to ease out to change lanes not do sharp manoeuvres which will destabilise the caravan.
P.S we bought a motorhome on Friday.

Tina
